I'll see ya guys in a little bit. I am planning to install a new DVD burner in my computer. It's not a Pioneer, but a rebadged Panasonic and can read/write DVD-RAMs. All for $50 after rebate.
It also gives me a chance to blow away all the dust bunnies.

now, i'm in a dillema, to upgrade this year or next....
Cool a HTPC, i'm building one soon maybe late this year I'm not sure if I want to buy 2 LCD monitor's or just use 1 19" but i'm looking forward to this, because while working I miss alot of F1 races or WRC races.
Damn, had a long night/early morning trying to get rid of a virus and spyware invasion on my PC... Was up 'til 4:30AM trying to fix it with no luck and I was back at it by 9AM.
Six hours laters, I'm done. :bleh:
Seems like a lotta this anti-virus and anti-spyware stuff can only go so far: I had to hack at the registry (Win2KSP4) and download all kinds of programs to weed those mothers out....
Words of wisdom: keep your anti-virus and anti-spyware programs up to date and run frequent checks (weekly, at least)....
Picked up a nasty StartPage-DU.dll trojan virus that took some effort to remove and an even nastier CoolWWWSearch spyware program that took repeated tries to eradicate....
I had to use all of these programs to remove that crap (freeware, BTW):
Spybot
Ad-Aware SE Personal
Avast! Antivirus
HijackThis
Whoa, that sucks.
I have only 1 virus invasion however good old Norton was there to back me up and eradicate it.
I have one problem that's been happening lately. Whenever I run a virus scan (Norton) I get a result that I have an adware program that's stuck in my computer and Norton can't delete it. I've located the file however, I can't delete it. Any suggestions for the non savvy computer literate person?

lots of times with such trash on the comp, u gotta go directly into the registry and remove its links there itself. these programs put some kindda locks in the registry blocking there removal
play with the registry only if u know about it ... else can mess up other stuff
i've never had my machine infected with a virus...
guess i'm lucky in a way, hehehe
well, probably coz i dont usually download executables and stuff from the net...

Good. Keep that baby up to date.

Do you have any spyware detection programs installed? If not, try one of the freebie ones I used above...
I had the same problem: if the program is running, you can't delete it using the Task Manager. You have to either boot up into DOS or into Safe Mode and delete that file or files.
Than after a normal boot, search the registry for any references to that file and delete 'em. But backup the registry first, just in case you delete the wrong file or something.
My main problem right now is dealing with the heat that's generate by all the drives. This is especially so for my 2ndary machine that I use for burning. The 3x 200GBs that I have're stacked together in a cage, while the 300GB, and 2 burners're stacked together. Stacking the 200GBs're fine, but stacking the burners and 300GB is a pretty bad idea. Damn heat traverses up from the HD, and into the burners, and on top of that, the two burners're burning, so it's generating so much heat that I can barely touch the drives. When those dvds're done burning, I reckon they're like 130-140 degrees F.
Making me think about building my own computer from the grounds up so that nothing is stacked on top of each other.. *sigh.....

It's not just a matter of downloading executables: just visiting the wrong site could do it...
I wasn't downoloading anything when my PC got the bug: I was searching for more Ryoko-chan pics and a buncha popups opened and boom, a virus warning... :bleh:
