Starts in SoCal on 2/10/2007....

Official web site: http://www.nhk.or.jp/taiga/

From Wikipedia:
The title is a reference to the war banner used by Takeda Shingen, which in turn was taken from Sun Tzu's The Art of War. It means "Swift as the Wind, Silent as a Forest, Fierce as Fire and Immovable as a Mountain."

Like many of the previous Taiga dramas, Fūrin Kazan will deal with the Sengoku period. Based on Yasushi Inoue's novel by the same title, it depicts the life of Yamamoto Kansuke who is known as one of Takeda Shingen's legendary strategists.

Cast:

* Yamamoto Kansuke: Masaaki Uchino
* Takeda Shingen: Kamejirō Ichikawa
* Princess Yū: Yuki Shibamoto
* Uesugi Kenshin: Gackt
* Mitsu: Shihori Kanjiya

Quote of the day, people. hehe

Even in a drama from the Sengoku period, he seems to be portrayed as androgynous. Shake Head bleh

Looks on the bright side: if he's a baddie, maybe the guy with the eye patch gets to slice him like a Honeybaked ham. hehe

Saw some previews after Dotch... Looks pretty good.

I also browsed through one of the pictorial NHK books on this drama... Nice.

Needless to say, Blekt looked out of place: most/all of the samurai looked tough and battle-weary, while Blekt looked like a geisha in samurai drag. Shake Head

    Yeah, I liked that as well. They did those at the end of every episode of Shinsengumi but I was disappointed that they didn't do it for Kyoumei ga Tsuji

In the first episode, doesn't it seem to be an homage to Shichi-no Samurai? Especially the scene where the ashigaru surround the samurai, and the scene immediately preceding it? Anyway, looks like it will be a good show.

BMW

On to episode two...!

Did they show the whole first episode down in your neighborhood?

Up here they always cut the first and last episodes in half.

The first week they got to the 30 minute mark (sans commercials), just when the Takeda were digging their tiger pit ambush for the Hojo, and stopped. Then last night they picked it up and showed the rest of episode #1 which times out at a full hour of video.

I'm not really gonna watch the show until I've stockpiled a few episodes, but from what I saw while editing out the commercials I think this is gonna be fun.

The guy with the eye patch seems sort of like the anti Musashi.

From your description, we got the same edit on the show.

This director really loves the old "spear in the eyeball" shot, ne? More blood in episode 1 than in all of Shinsengumi and Kyoumei ga Tsuji combined!
