Too bad for Goto Maki. I didn't really listen to her new stuff, but it seems she tried to look like Koda Kumi. She could have done something good over time. Sad. Shake Head

How true this is! From the Tokyo Shimbun:

===============================================

Dave Spector Attacks Japanese TV Dramas

The Tokyo Shimbun reports (in Japanese) that Dave Spector was a guest speaker at a regular convention of commercial broadcasters. The main question addressed this year was "who wants to watch what on Japanese TV?" and touched on issues like the cosy way TBS dealt with the Kameda boxing family. Dave Spector, along with some other panellists, felt that Japanese TV was not catering enough to the adult audience and tended to treat viewers like children. He singled out TV dramas as one of the worst forms of television on Japan today especially because of the poor quality acting, especially by teen idols and fashion models. He said anyone looking at overseas dramas shown on cable and TV Tokyo can't help but notice the difference in standards. He suggested that even people working in TV found overseas TV programmes more interesting than their own output. He also expressed the view that Japanese TV was too hostile to the internet. He gave the example of the US where cable TV had eaten into the audience for terrestrial broadcasters but now the big 4 networks had fought back by releasing material on the web shortly after showing a programme.

This story has been picked up on 2 Channel where, interestingly, it seems that most people broadly agree with Dave Spector.

Popular Idol Rumoured To Have Switched To Porn

Here's another hot topic from 2 Channel. a well-known idol with the initial "K" is rumoured to have taken part in an adult video shoot. This isn't a story about how the girl has a murky past. Instead it seems that she has decided to appear in the video after making her name in the mainstream and it will be released early next year. Speculation has focused on idols who have seen their careers nosedive recently, including singer Tomomi Kahala and former Morning Musume member Ai Kago

w00t!
Kimochi~ rofl Now, that some juicy news. I bet they got it all wrong. The K they're talking about is Koda Kumi and the AV is actually her next PV. hehe Twisted

Trivia: On October 2007, it was said officially that Kago's mother, Kago Aki, will pose nude in a photobook produced by Motoji Takasu.

I'm surprise people agree with Dave Spector. Applaud I doubt it'll change unless everybody stops watching their programs tho.

Yeah but it's an important acknowledgment from someone in the Japanese entertainment industry, even though he is a "gajin tarento."

It would take a foreigner to say something like that....everybody else is probably too busy kissing ass. But you must agree though, that the fall in drama ratings across the board does indicate that many ppl do agree with Spector's critique...it's no coincidence, I'd say.

Ass kissing... good point. Thumbsup I didn't really look at the ratings. I'm sure it's not 30 something like Love Generation. Sweat

I bet the problem is in part due to talent agencies producing the shows. Surely bribing TV execs to be in the golden hours. The only real actors / writers end up most of the time in the 11PM~12AM time slot. It should return to normal soon enough or they'll continue to produce crap until it's too late. Like the music industry, nobody wants to spend $15 for a CD filled with the same generic crap.

Nowaday, if a show breaks a 15 percent average it's probably considered a big hit.

Yeah the talent agency system as it exists in Japanese entertainment has way too much influence. Why don't they try to pick ppl that are actually talented.

I checked her profile. She's 43. It seems her last drama was Long vacation in 1996. So, she really aged by 10 years.

Don't know why she stop acting after such a big hit. Head Scratch

If you play the video, there's a menu to the right that has a lot of other videos as well, the last one is something with Abe and Yuki Amami doing something for Toshiba.
