I used to be interested in it for almost 10 years now. Every new years day I would have to be home before 5pm so I could catch it and record it. This year I could care less because there's always Youtube if I want to see a specific performance. But it's not like there's anyone that really catches my interest this year. Sad

It is sadly lacking since Mai-K was not invited... How can that be ? Shameful Cry

I hope so. It will take me about 2 weeks to finish it. I have 10 discs and 3 tapes for backup. Now I have to go through the discs and make sure they all recorded and then author them. You will like otsuka Ai's number.
She sang perfectly and looked beautiful. Nakashima Mika also did a great number. w00t!

For those inclined to watch this show, if you use BitTorrent, you can download the video at D-addicts.

AKB48, Morning Musume, Berryz Koubou, and C-ute were fantastic. Another cool thing was that AKB48 members did some backup dancing for the Enka singers.

Mm. I actually liked this year's show.

The MCs were really a successful choice.
Overall, there were some that underdid their performances, but some others exceeding my expectations made mostly up for that.

Gackt is still ruling the world (in his performance), even though he was overly-nasal once again.
Yeah, Mika did well Smile
Plus, the ending song being 'Sekai' was really really nice.

Hope the ratings are good too.

I also thought the show was fairly watchable; may be because they brought back a lot of artists I know.

The tribute to ZARD was nice: she's still one of my favorite artists.

Most of you probably haven't heard of the duo AMING, who sang a new version of their smash hit Matsu wa from '82 (they sang the same song in that year's Kouhaku). They're one of my favorite groups from the 80's, but their performance was so bad it's painful to watch Shameful Cry

Yet another version of Kobayashi Akiko's Fall in Love (first released in '85); I'm getting really sick and tired of this song...

EDIT: For those who're interested, here're the original versions of:

AMING - Matsu wa:

There's also a clip on youtube (don't know if it's from 82's Kouhaku or some other show):

Kobayashi Akiko (dubbed Japan's Karen Carpenter at the time) - Fall in Love:

How about the acrobatics. They were really good and distracted from the singers which did not bother me as that kind of music is not on my list of favorites. I worried one of those handstand guys and girls would fall over and the jugglers would drop their bowling pins... a very elaborate number. Sweat

We watched a bit of Kouhaku at my grandma's house. Two of my friends were there and they were a bit scared of all the extravagant costumes, hairstyles, and the singing, which made me laugh. They kind of liked EXILE a little and Angela Aki. However, they were too annoyed by the whole thing and found it to be ridiculous that we turned the channel after a while. Ah, those kooky Japanese. hehe
