Koda got herself a scandal (and suspension + album-promos called off) when she gave an insulting comment on ANN earlier this week.
For me, it was just a question of time when she'd do it. She's never really thought about what she said.
Kind of sad it turned out this way though.

Mmmh for me itLs like the article in English said, not a big deal. I am more worried when certain Japanese politcians say similar things and really mean it ...But itLs a basic and stupid comment nontheless.

Yes. In fact, the politician would not have been blame. The female reporter, would you have taken his comments, would have gotten fired. =T

Oricon: beautiful skin

Thu, February 14, 2008

The website of Oricon's audition magazine De-View recently surveyed its users to see which actresses are considered to have beautiful skin. Aoi Miyazaki and Erika Sawajiri tied for first in the poll, both receiving praise for their skin's smoothness.

Nanako Matsushima, Koyuki, and Haruka Ayase were next on the list, in order. Yui Aragaki and Miho Kanno both ranked at #6. Erika Toda, Aya Ueto, and Emi Suzuki had a three-way tie to complete the top ten.

i think she will be suspended for quite a along time. here's what i found in Tokyograph:

Fallout from Kumi Koda comment continues
Mon, February 4, 2008 (4:47pm EST)

Public anger over Kumi Koda's careless comment last week continues to run strong, while networks and advertisers scramble to distance themselves from the singer. It was already announced that cosmetics company KOSE removed her from its website, but several more firms have followed suit.

Kirin has halted its commercials for the chuhai brand Hyoketsu. The drink's website has been closed, as has Honda's ZEST Sports page. Gilette Japan (who was about to start a new campaign with Koda) and Morinaga Seika have also taken similar action.

On Sunday, NTV and Fuji TV aired episodes of "Koi no Karasawagi" and "Shin Domoto Kyodai" that included Koda. Fuji TV said that it received more than 100 complaints from viewers. Meanwhile, TV Asahi has decided to postpone its broadcast of a "Tetsuko no Heya" episode that was scheduled to air this Thursday.

Avex says that Koda is suspending activity at least until the end of this month, though it may last longer, depending on public opinion. It is also not clear yet whether her commercial campaigns will be revived in the future.

Despite the negative press, Koda's newly-released album "Kingdom" managed to take #1 on the charts for its initial week.

and here is her official apology, but sadly she cannot convinced everyone about it..

Reactions to Koda's apology
Fri, February 8, 2008 (9:31pm EST)
On Thursday, Kumi Koda appeared in an exclusive interview on Fuji TV's "FNN Super News" to apologize for a remark she made on "All Night Nippon" last week. She had stated that "when women turn 35, their amniotic fluid goes rotten," leading to many angry reactions from the public.

During Thursday's interview, she attempted to explain her comment and tearfully apologized for the harm she caused.

Not everyone was convinced, however. An informal poll taken after the broadcast through Sankei Sports' website indicated that 81% of the viewers felt the apology was insufficient, while only 9% said it was enough. Fuji TV later announced that by midnight on Thursday, it had received almost 300 phone calls about the broadcast. About a third of them carried heavy criticism, such as saying that Koda's apology felt insincere. Only 9 of the callers defended the singer.

According to Video Research Ltd., Koda's appearance did not boost ratings. Her apology drew ratings of 10.1%, the same as the average for the show's second half.
