Certainly they are more forgiving of the flaws than we are it seems. I skimmed through the last three pages of the discussion at D-Addicts and it looks like while most point out some flaws, they put the Ruka-Takeru relationship as the positive which makes the drama good in their eyes. That's only the last three pages, so obviously that's not going to give a good idea of the overall consensus there. I do agree that the Ruka-Takeru relationship is what kept this drama up, but I don't agree that's it so much a positive that it overrides all the negatives.

Especially when the negative is completely interwoven into the story... Sweat

Well, some parts of it still ended up in fantasyland, while some parts were just resolved in the easiest way possible in the span of an hour.

I'm still wondering what the special episode will show. A prequel? An epilogue? I'll watch it, but I don't expect to be astonished by what will happen in that episode. I stopped holding my breath a long time ago.

As I predicted: ten episodes of teasing and suspense, then a near-totally unsatisfying ending... Shake Head

I fast-forwarded through that BS... I wasted more than enough time watching that part of the story. bleh

Click on button to reveal/hide spoiler:

Yeah, that was a joke... More un-creative writing... The writer(s) just gave up... And not just on this story. Shake Head

Click on button to reveal/hide spoiler:

Absolutely.

The interactions between those two were the very best points of the drama, hands down: they were heartfelt, sympathetic, and believable... If it wasn't for those two, the drama would've tanked after a couple of episodes in my view.

Click on button to reveal/hide spoiler:

Probably the most disappointing character in the entire drama... I stopped caring about her around Episode 5... Shake Head

LOL... Or his ears. hehe

I'm not entirely disappointed with the serie. I mean, a dramatic finale doesn't really make a serie good or bad for me. To me, it's the overall message and how well the storyline comes together. Last Friends is not one of the best series out there but it is one of the good ones. I can criticize all I want to but at the end of the day, I would watch it again. It's not perfect and I wish I can change many things in the serie, but I'm okay with how it ended. I guess, I'm an easy watcher.

If a movie will come out, I hope they will have entirely different storyline.

Hmm.. Everyone is entitled to having their opinion, but for me the drama was a disappointment.. And to be honest, I didn't get the overall message whatever it was that they were trying to convey.

One of the things that bugged me about Ep11:

Just finished episode 10. Since it looks like everyone is using spoiler tags, so will I:

I hope Juri-chan wins an award for her acting, but more because her acting made the role rather than the other way around. There is some great acting from her, and I'm glad she took a role like this. As for the series, crank down on the ambition and up the effort. So-so at best.

Sorry for being longwinded. Mr Green

From watching episode 11, seemed to me the story has ended (be it a good or bad ending...). I totally couldn't understand how a movie/SP can be made out of this... and I heard all the cast are returning.. seemed like I am smelling something totally unrealistic is going to happen in the SP.. Definitely going to worsen the already bad ending... or rather almost bad series.

That was great... Pretty much a summarization of what's been continually said over the past 11 weeks.

The Sosuke paragraph was gold.... Gold! hehe

I agree... Her character was CLEARLY the most developed, sympathetic, and evolved of them all... And I'd have to say the only person in the cast and production crew to merit an award... The writer(s) need to watch other dramas themselves to see how it's done or go to night school...

Just watched the last episode of Last Friends.

First time I think I've ever watched a show from beginning to end with regularity (I don't think I've ever seen a show as it came out like this, Jdrama or otherwise). For that, it was entertaining - waiting each week to see what came next.

By the middle of the 4th episode, or so, I had really tempered my expectations, so I didn't find it to be nearly as much of a let down as some other people seem to. It was pretty much what I expected.

I thought that Ueno Juri really did a great job, for the most part.. as did most of the other actors, given a pretty limited set of writings. Sadly, I don't know if anyone really got to play out their potential here... especially Asami, Masami and Ryo (I haven't seen these two before)... they really got screwed.

But, in the end, the acting for the parts they got was pretty decent. Now the parts varied from decent to suck. I think Michiru's part was just horrible. I can count on both hands the number of times I cared about her during the series - which is really sad considering what she went through. She should have been the focus - she started the series and ended it, but never was anything more than a poorly fleshed out idea, let alone a memorable, lovable, hatible, or otherwise interesting character.

I think it was okay for Sousuke to not be overly nuanced. He actually had a pretty limited role in 'teaching' Michiru (even though the writing really failed to get her to understand).

Eri was sadly underused. She had a kind of strength that Ruka pretended to. It wasn't a faultless strength, but had the potential to provide wonderful character interaction. Bleh. I think she may be the character I'm most disappointed with how she was used.

Takeru was a good guy. He wasn't overly deep (even though they tried). Eita was really sweet in the role - always saying the right things, acting selflessly where appropriate. <yawn>.

Ruka was another well of untapped potential. Her story was interesting and socially relevant and it was only scratched from the surface. Juri managed some brilliant acting in some scenes and some totally forgettable ones in others. For the fan, it's a great series for her as she became the unintended focus, in my opinion.

Now, as for Ep 11:

Masami actually held the record for most times in the last episode making me choke up while watching it. She has a good upset face.

I'll miss the characters, perhaps Takeru the most, but I'm pretty glad it's over.

A couple of cheap, final episode suspense points thrown in for good measure, IMO... Like something was REALLY gonna go wrong... Shake Head

That was a really interesting scene... One of the few times I felt good and smiled... Victory! Peace!

I have no idea why they would do a "special" episode next week. It seems really lame. And honestly.. the ending was fine - what the hell else do we need?

<sigh> You're completely correct. Well, it's good to know it's not so different from American TV. I'm so glad when they voluntarily decide to end a show here - you know, before it sucks.
