Have you seen the Sugar Special?

I actually saw the Special first before watching the series. I couldn't resist the cuteness then so I had to watch the series afterwards.

It's really moving and fairly emotional in many scenes. The title of the movie is a metaphor about life....the animation is very colorful and really quite exceptional. A stirring tale about a boy and a girl.

Highly recommended! Very much like a dorama, to be honest. About an hour in length.

Have you seen Makoto Shinkai's earlier shows, Voices of a Distant Star and The Place Promised in Our Early Days ?

Amazing that he did almost the whole anime using his home computer...
you should watch The Place Promised in Our Early Days...once again Makoto Shinkai was responsible for almost everything, but this time with the help of a major animation studio!!

The little fairies were charming. I watched more than I expected to of that.

Welcome to the anime thread, Jenjen. :D

Im watching more twisted deranged stuff with Sayonara Zetsubuo Sensei.
 My god there is some dark and very funny stuff in this one. :beaten:

The SP was about Saga landing the role as Princess in a school play. The cute parts came when Sugar, Salt and Pepper decided to make their own play :victory: Sadly though, I lost the SP when my hard drive was wiped out, but I do plan to buy the DVD so I can have the entire series.

Welcome to the anime thread BTW. :woot:

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time in LA, NYC, Seattle

Award-winning film to play in LA & NYC in June, Seattle in August/September

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bandai Entertainment and Kadokawa Pictures USA have announced that Mamoru Hosoda's award-winning The Girl Who Leapt through Time film will play in Los Angeles and New York City from June 13 to June 19, and in Seattle, Washington from August 29 to September 4. For the June theatrical release, the film will play in the ImaginAsian film houses in both cities. The Los Angeles theater will have the English-subbed version, while New York will have the English-dubbed version. In Seattle, the English-subbed version will play in the Landmark Theatres' Varsity Theatre. Bandai Entertainment had previously announced that more venues in other cities and DVD plans will be revealed later.

The film updates the premise of Tsutsui Yasutaka's best-selling A Girl Who Runs Through Time (Toki o Kakeru Shōjo or TokiKake) novel by having a modern Japanese girl discover she can leap back in time. A subtitled trailer is available online. CMX Manga is releasing Gaku Tsugano's earlier two-volume manga adaptation of the original novel in September and November.

Wow, Vexille was pretty dayem good. I thought it was better than Appleseed and Final Fantasy, as far as CGI flicks.

*Edit* Looks awesome! A bit of Ghost In The Shell :)

I had never heard of either! I stumbled upon it...it's a bit Ghost in Shell, Dune, Appleseed, and Bladerunner all rolled into one. It was really really good.

Aside from the action, the plot was really interesting ~ having a suspenseful element to it. It's worth the download.

I'll look for it :) I haven't seen Appleseed, but I have seen both the Final Fantasy movies. The Spirits Within has amazing CGI (for it's time) but the story wasn't much. Advent Children was good, but it's really for FFVII fans. :)

I've seen both FF films you mentioned....Vexille actually has a more interesting story, IMHO. Good stuff :)

Meisa Kuroki is the voice actress of the main character.

i just finished watching Dune... i mean Vexille.. i agree 100%. The cell shading in interesting, but they didn't sync the voices very well. The story was interesting though. I really like the gimp dance towards the end, it was rather amusing.

In actual order of movie references, i'd say it was Ghost in the Shell, Escape from Manhatten, Bladerunner, Appleseed then Dune.

I really like the soundtrack, Oakenfold did a great job, and im glad to hear some MIA along with some Prodigy and Underworld in there.

The spice must flow on Arrakis, a desert planet. :hehe:

Yeah it almost looked rotoscoped like that Keanu Reeves movie, A Scanner Darkly. I liked it.
