Sweet! looks like it's a Last Friends night tonight :)
Okay.. so I watched ep. 4 and I have to say, I was actually pleasantly surprised. It's probably the episode I think is best so far. Very full story - lots happens, we get a lot of character development and just about everyone does something of consequence. It wasn't spellbinding, but it was certainly pretty good. We start to see a little of Michiru's co-dependence.
I specifically enjoyed the scene with Eri and Tomohiko in the cafe. Asami's finally getting some airtime!
I was mad they didn't show the full intro though.. I think the cameos of each of the characters is such a neat part of the show - they're so vulnerable in them.

Though, I was a little saddened by her response to Sousuke at the door... she's way ballsier than that! Unless it's all a front (which seems increasingly likely)I was mad they didn't show the full intro though.. Yeah, I re-watched Episode 4 with subs this time and I thought it was the best one as well... Not surprisingly, it was less about that loon and more about everyone else, even Ruka's motocross coach and boss... :victory:
At this point in the drama, Ruka's character is the most developed and the most conflicted... Clearly evident in this episode.
Hey everyone... after reading like 50 pages on Last friends, i decided to comment lol. Boy it was long :nut:
This is my first post so yeah... don't mind me repeating what you heard for on the previous pages...
I actually thought episode 4 was quite good in comparison to the others. At first when i watched it without subs i thought it was uneventful and at a degree lack some action compared to the previous episode. And i'm not referring to the DV scenes :beatyou:
The subs definitely made it better! Praise the fansubbers! Thanks heaps! After say numerous times of watching eps 4, i was a bit confused at one scenes. Yes i'm so crazy about Last Friends and this is my first Jdrama i watched. Officially heart Ueno Juri as well lol :inlove:
Why did Michiru act kind of "formal" towards Ruka in the end (I'm not sure if thats the right word. I just can't seem to pin her behaviour) She had this look on her when she saw Ruka in the morning. It was like she felt guilty or something...Or am i just analysing it too much??? :banghead:
Other than that, i loved the scene at the bar. It was so Takeru-ish to do that to ruka... And it was surprising that Takeru was the one that gave the cups. And wasn't it thoughtful of him to get a cup matching of Ruka's and him for Michiru.
About the preview for eps 5. A line caught my attention. When Takeru asked if she (Ruka) liked someone? I think Ruka said "yes but its good if its one-sided love." It kind of indicates how ruka feels about herself. I get the impression that she feels her love for michiru is wrong so maybe thats why she wants a sex change??? She's also wound up in the idea of gender; She's always like don't think me of a female but of a racer etc. Well keep in mind that i based the quote on the subs so don't flame me if i got it wrong or had it in the wrong context. :beaten:
And bit of a thought/question. Do anyone thinks Ruka even has a chance with Michiru?
Personally i really do hope so because Ruka deserves happiness. It kind of saddens me to see her in pain and Michiru oblivious to it. But looking at it realistically, its a lost cause... Don't think we will see a happy ending. Gosh i do hope there will be a happy couple in this series in the end.

Welcome... :)

I got the feeling that Michiru was planning on sneaking out early, but was surprised to see Ruka already up...
Other than that, i loved the scene at the bar. It was so Takeru-ish to do that to ruka... And it was surprising that Takeru was the one that gave the cups. And wasn't it thoughtful of him to get a cup matching of Ruka's and him for Michiru.
That was a really nice scene... Takeru's obviously the sensitive, nice guy... Hope it doesn't do him in...
She's also wound up in the idea of gender; She's always like don't think me of a female but of a racer etc.
That's her big inner conflict in the drama... And trying to deal with it.

Will be back in 50 minutes or so...

Hm. That episode had less of the usual stuff from the first three episodes. That did it some good.
I still want to see where the writers will go with Eri's story, just because she and Ogurin seem to be the foil for all the other characters. Everybody else is deeply troubled, and then you look at those two and somehow the overall heavy themes of the drama don't seem to weigh on you for at least a bit. They haven't done anything over-the-top with that part of the drama, so I'm trying to find out if they'll deviate from what I expect to happen there, given how the rest of the series is going.
As for Takeru, amazingly, that's significant progress. They've established where he stands in the scheme of things as far as all the relationships go. Not sure if they're consciously putting out the visual cue that he seems to be gay, but if they are, then at least it preserves some interest on the remaining details behind Takeru's own conflicts. I actually thought he was going to go more in depth about his family while discussing with Michiru, but that may have been too much in one episode.
And, well, Ruka was crying. Oh man. Who the hell did that to her? :puppydog:

I doubt that if he were gay he would be so interested in Ruka... They did hint at his trauma earlier in the episode, but it was just a tease...

Is it just me or does everyone feel for Ruka more than any other character?
bmwracer wrote:

The only significant developments in the storyline have been to Ruka's character so far. Sosuke is violent, but there hasn't been any more detail as to why he's that way, and they've only started to hint at his own conflict with this episode. Michiru is very much attached to Sosuke still, but the last three episodes were all about her taking her share of punishment and coming back, which isn't something people would want to focus on. It's great that they at least made her out to be somewhat aware of her own shortcomings.
Which leaves Ruka being very much the focal point for all the attention in this series for now. And as far as her situation right now, that's real depressing.

It is.
It's interesting that Michiru is supposed to be the lead character, but Ruka is pretty much dominating the story so far...
Not that there's anything wrong with that. :beaten:

Exactly, I like Ruka and her character deserves it.
What I'm thinking is, Takeru is going to be the one who gives love and support to the other characters (like Michiru & Ruka) and it was clear when he said he was going to "Protect Ruka". Episode 5 seems promising, hope the storyline progresses even more.

It will if Sosuke kills himself, as promised in the preview. :beaten: :hehe: :rofl:bmwracer wrote:

Episode 4 gave us a little insight to why Sosuke is a possessive person which causes him to be violent. The scene where Michiru was talking to Takeru in the kitchen. Michiru explained that Sosuke was abandoned by his mother at a young age. She left her own son for a man. From that information, I believed Sosuke's experience made him to hate women who reminds him of his mother and to become possessive for the fear of experiencing the pain again.
My prediction of the ending:
I believed it is either Sosuke or Ruka who died at the end. It would be ridiculous to let Michiru and Sosuke have a happy ending since he has a big problem. I think the writers want to teach us and give us some meaning after watching the drama. To live with someone who constantly hurt you is not the message the writers want to send ( well, I hope not). Also, at the very beginning of the drama, we get to see a pregnant Michiru. The child has to belong to Sosuke because biologically, Ruka and Michiru can't have a baby. So I'm leaning toward Sosuke who will die. He will live on even though he is no longer alive.
As for Ruka, I'm clueless about her ending. Having a lesbian character as a main lead in a drama is already ground breaking. I don't know if the writers will break another ground by letting Ruka have a happy ending. It seems like their relationship is doomed since the beginning because of certain comments made by Michiru and Ruka. There is still no sign of Michiru loving Ruka in THAT way.
I guess we have to wait for more clues and hints to jump into more conclusions.
suketeru's subs are out as well!
As an aside, I don't really think of Ruka as a lesbian per se. I think she's the type who will love someone for who they are, regardless of their gender. And it just so happens that she loves Michiru, who is a girl. This is groundbreaking because so many people can relate with those conflicted feelings of not confining yourself to a label, and breaking most rules.
