Which controller did you get? How do you like it so far?

just give it up :beaten: . the whole gambit system was the lousy-est thing those FF makers could ever come up with. Leave it for dinner or even throwing crap in the toilet and your characters will still be leveling up by itself. the shape of the summons was a total turn off, and the characters look way too metrosexual.

just play the previous. which is more fun. PS2 right? try FFX, or maybe the FFX-2 which is the 'girly-est' FF :hehe:

*sticks tongue out at monta*
Lol, I've never heard anyone complain that the characters in a video game look too metrosexual.

Hey, I can deal with stuff that's not "girly", you know *hard-as-nails-keps* :beaten:
Btw, yeah, I do have a PS2. I don't think I'm gonna bother with any other FF games, at least for now.

I guess I got the hang of them pretty easily, but I played D&D with my friends when I was in HS. FFVII was my first Japanese RPG back in 1997, and I figured out the basics pretty easily. The way they work just makes sense to me most of the time.

I play JRPGs for the characters and stories. I can handle a weaker game system if I'm enjoying the story. I still remember the end of the first disc in FFVII. I had never had that happen before in a game, and I thought I had done something wrong! I enjoy tactics over reflexes so I tend to enjoy the turn-based games a bit more. The Shin Megami Tensei series is very good, but not for the beginner. If you make a mistake the game witll punish you, but you can exploit the enemy as well. Battles can turn south in an second, and there is an insta-death spell (Mudo) that can Game Over in one hit.

I loved the Xenosaga series for the stories and the characters, but some hated the long cut scenes. FFVII, FFVIII, X, XII I found to be excellent. X-2 is like "Spira's Angels" as you play 3 girls the whole time, and Rikku decided to dress down for some reason. Having played a Final Fantasy does not give you a great advantage for the next one as they tend to change things (like the hated gambit system in XII), but they keep the same spell names (so far on the PS2 games). Cura in X is Cura in XII so the learning curve is a bit easier. I loved Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria and Persona 3; very unique gameplay in P3 with the high school social life you have to cultivate. There are always tedious things about any game, but they usually don't bother me too much. I could go on, but you've probably stopped reading by now.

No, I read every word. I just didn't understand all of them. :D
Reading the above really just reinforces for me that it's too complicated for me.

Playing since 1997? I've only had my machine since 2006...and before that I had no experience of gaming either.

I think probably I'll stick with platformers and action/adventure games. Ones where you don't have to think a lot, lol.

I'm still playing Psychonauts, which is a platformer. I'm loving it. I've totalled nearly a day playing it, and I think there's still quite a way to go.
I'm never going to be one if those people who completes a game in a few hours. But I don't care.
As long as I enjoy myself, that's the main thing.

The games look AMAZING on HDTV! :woot:

Using a cable to access the internet is impossible due to the location of hte console and the hub, so I'm gonna have to go the wireless route. I prolly won't be able to go out and purchase the wireless adaptor until next week tho. :pout:

In the meantime, I think I'll start Oblivion. I finised Eternal Sonata (end was a bit disappointing) but I'll play it all about with a guide to access all the stuff I missed.

Of course, I won't be able to do any of this until I'm done marking. >_<

Yep, that's the whole reason I got an HDTV. The games look amazing on it.

I just spend about 3 hours this morning playing Oblivion. Man, this game is HUGE! Visuals are amazing and story isn't that bad so far! All the options are a little overwhelming tho. I need more direction. :beaten:

Yeah, it's a virtual world, basically. You can do anything you want in the game, so you have to set your own direction. You can follow the main story and the quests, or you can go off and explore on your own and find ancient ayleid sites, or crumbling imperial castles, or explore the towns...that's why I like the Elder Scrolls games so much. They've got 100+ hours of gameplay + replay value. It's not as bad as Daggerfall, or Morrowind, the earlier Elderscrolls games. Those were even bigger.

What race and class are you playing? I usually make my own class. The last one I did was a Nord "freelancer". Mainly a warrior that can pick locks, heal himself, and make potions.

That sounds like a whole lot of fun. One of the biggest issue I have with Rainbow Six Vegas is that it has very little replayability if you don't intend to play online. Instead of adapting to me it cheats to "up the challenge".

Rainbow Six Vegas is still a good game, but it's way too short, and you're right about little replay value. Although RPGs and shooters are a bit different in that catagory.

Here's Oblivion's site if you want to take a look: http://www.elderscrolls.com/art/obliv_xbox360_screens_01.htm

I loved the fact that you could make up your own character after you got the hang of it, but since it was my first play, I let it choose for me. I'm a dark elf "rogue". I'm not sure what the means right now. :beaten:

Rogues are combat characters who travel light...I'm not quite sure how they play because having experience with the older Elder Scrolls games, I've always made my own class.

That endpoint in the sewers is a good place to keep a save game, because if you want to start a new character, you don't have to go through the tutorial again.

If you like dark elves, you might be interested in picking up Morrowind (or not, considering how huge that game is too :beaten:). It's set in their homeland with their culture and customs.

wynter: you are evil! I kept on seeing that sigpic and avatar of yours. I gave Eternal Sonata a go, I slept only 4 hours last night :beaten: for some reason I tend to watch movies/play games late at night.

at first I thought it was too 'girly', but the pace is just right, normally I'm not really into the traditional RPG's but Eternal Sonata is fun so far. Had to get used to the buttonbashing fightstyle - I like it. The music and setting, can't stop thinking about Nodame. The seiyuu of Polka is rather cute (MisaMisa from Death Note XD)

Uh, it's a brand I haven't heard of before. But it was cheap ($17) and it works great! No more pulling the PS2 off the shelf by mistake

Now you tell me. :beaten:

I played for another 4 hours today. Man, this game is addictive.

Oooooooo cool, I'll check it out. :victory:

LOL! I've converted another one! :woot: Yea, once you get over the initial shock of the visuals looking like a children's book, it actually gets really good. What part are you yet?

Yeah, it is :beaten:. I think I logged over 100+ hours with my original character. I still didn't see everything in the game  [/quote]

Did you go explore the imperial city first, or did you go to Chorrol? I did the first the first time I played. I think I spent about 20 hours just in there.

hmm, I'm wandering around (read: being lost) in the Forte Fermata :beaten:
sorta reminds me of the castle level in Skies of Arcadia..

Yea, I explored, tho not all of it. I think I spent about 10 hours there alone. I should go back and talk with the beggars to find that thief guy. Hmm...

OMG that place was hard! Let me know if you need help with it. There's a floating room that you need to move from one side of the fort to teh other. Only when you figure out which switches to hit in what order can you make it work. ;)

Somehow I managed to get to the boss room and beat it in one go :hehe:
thankfully there's always a savingpoint near. before and after a cutscene, definitely a welcome change in RPG land. I always hated having to play on hours to get to the next save

Ahhhhhh yea, I love the savepoints. There is one area tho where you DO have to play for hours until it comes up, but that area is optional. It's hard too. :shamefulcry:

I canft seem to get into that game. I was pretty excited the first day I played Oblivion since the game world was supposed to be huge and people gave it great reviews but after a few hours (and a couple of character class changes) later I got bored with it.
I really tried as well, read some of the in game books, built my character, did quests etc. I think I got to the Blade headquarters up in the mountains when I stopped playing.
The wilderness feels so lifeless and small, and up until where I played the story was a bit weak. Does it pick up or something? I want to know because I don't want to just give up on the game completely.
