My bro bought one and I was watching Spiderman 2 on it. I must admit, I'm pretty impressed with Sony's new product. It would have been hailed as the new iPod-killer if the batteries didn't run out so fast, IMO.

Sounds good to me...
What kind of batteries does it use? AAs/AAAs? Or special Sony batteries? Sony seems to have this thing where they try to lock the user into using parts that are theirs and only theirs (like the memory stick and MD discs)...
After debating whether or not to get it, I decided what the heck... Go for it. Just trying it right now and noticed one dead pixel dead center. Not sure if I could get it replaced since there were hardly any more in stock also it appears many people have had dead pixels on theirs (way more than my one), it's not really visible only when the screen is all black but all in all I'm happy to have gotten a PSP.
My friend waited at the Sony Metreon in San Francisco (he was there last night but didn't pre-order) and he was the last person that got the final one left. He's not a gamer but buying it more for the media capabilities.
For those in Japan, are the music companies releasing their DVD's ala UMD as well? Have many companies in Japan used this capability?
As for games, there were so many (and more satisfying than the DS launch and it's March now and I'm still waiting for good games to come out on the DS) but waiting gave me time to read the reviews and went for Lumines and Ridge Racer...and despite the bad ratings, I can't get enough of my Sangoku Musou, so had to pick up Dynasty Warriors.
And last, I like the Sony commercial using the Franz Ferdinand song and also promoting it as an entertainment system with the movies and the iPod-ish guy jamming. Was surprised Sony went with the white headphones too.
Definitely need to get a screen protector though...
Before Sandisk was allowed to make the Memory Stick, prices were high since Sony controlled the market.
On the other hand. I enjoy using the MD. It's durable and rewritable. It's the marketing strategy by Sony that essentially doomed any success in the US. As a history lesson, look at the Betamax. It was superior in quality (in my opinion) to VHS, but Sony did not want to widely license the technology. Prior to DVD, how many of you used a Betamax?

Tell me about it. Sony just LOVES to make their own proprietary standards when it comes to media. They even made it so that the UMD would REPLACE the DVD. I guess they're totally over looking the fact that Blu-Ray is just around the block.
I dont really think that the psp is that hot. Its way overpriced, as usual, and the games cost just as much as ps2 games. I dont think its worth it at this current time, but when it drops to 149.99, and im sure it will, then I might consider getting it. :hehe:

Sony's design is so terrific, yet their marketing strategy is borderline retarded... :shakehead:

Knew a couple of folks with Betas, but the availablity of blank tapes and prerecorded stuff dried up mighty fast...
Sony doesn't seem to be learning from their mistakes very well... :banghead:

Does the PSP play mp3's? how are the games, good selection of them? Is is worth getting? heard it's expensive though.
btw: nice sig and avatar, yukie right? :naughty:
PSP selling for $249, and they come in several diff memory Sandisks, surprised that the sony memory stick doesnt work on it. available memory for the PSP are 128mb, 512mb, and i have been told that the 1gb will be out next year from the store clerk. Should hold enough for plenty of mp3' and pix. not sure if and when i will get the PSP, definitely not right now... :bonk:

I think it's worth it. It's not just a portable game player. It's a portable multimedia center! You can play games (duh), listen to MP3s, watch videos, and access the internet. Just wait until someone gets Linux running on a memory stick. The limits are endless. For $250? Even I'd get it. :beaten:
Sony has up till now refused to replace PSPs with dead/hotpixels, in fact they called a deadpixel not a defect :shakehead:
but according to IGN Sony is finally starting to give in. Still that's really bad service (you need to pay for all shipping costs) and really disappointing to see how Sony operates on this matter. You'd think they would have experience through their LCD monitors, even though it's a different division.
If my eyes didn't fail me, I saw a guy in the bus around the age of 30 holding a PSP and then he was so engrossed in it that I think he could have missed his stop....
Finished RE4 yesterday. What a tremendous experience! Definitely the best gc game and the best of its series! The gameplay has been renewed to a whole new level and not to mention the atmosphere! *the sound of the chainsaw runnin* This is a long game and little challengin at normal difficult, took me nearly 22 hrs to finish :victory: This is the true survival horror! Highly recommend!
