There's a better way. Like in the Geico radio ad. "The super easy method: Get your spouse to do it." :hehe:

Oki develops MPEG-4 encoder LSI
Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at 09:55 EDT

TOKYO — Oki Electric Industry Co announced Wednesday it has developed a single chip LSI, the ML86410, that enables real-time encoding of MPEG-4 data. By using the proprietary algorithm and developing an accelerator designed for this chip, Oki said it had succeeded in developing low cost, high-quality video compression.

"Our technologies for high-speed and high-quality video have been refined through our video delivery server. Based on these technologies, we have succeeded in enabling MPEG-4 encoding utilizing a dedicated hardware accelerator, which previously had to be done using software," said Masahiko Morioka, president of Silicon Solutions Company at Oki Electric. "Because of the quality and cost reduction it can offer, we believe this LSI will be an excellent solution for use in video equipment such as monitoring cameras and network cameras."

Compared to Motion-JPEG, the encoding method conventionally used for video encoding, MPEG-4, the international standard for video encoding, offers a higher compression rate. By using the MPEG-4 standard, Oki succeeded in developing an MPEG-4 encoder LSI with a high compression rate and high video quality

Apple says shipped iPods carrying computer virus Wed Oct 18, 9:26 AM ET

Some of Apple Computer Inc.'s iPod digital music players shipped in the past month carry a computer virus, according to a posting on Apple's technical support Web site.

Apple said since September 12, less than 1 percent of Video iPods -- pocket-sized devices that can play music files and video clips -- left its contract manufacturer carrying the virus RavMonE.exe, which affects computers running Microsoft Corp.'s Windows operating system.

"So far we have seen less than 25 reports concerning this problem. The iPod nano, iPod shuffle and Mac OS X are not affected, and all Video iPods now shipping are virus free," the company said on the site.

Apple said the virus can be detected and removed using many popular anti-virus software programs.

Representatives for Apple and Microsoft were not available

Yup, it's an onion: the more layers you peel away, the more it smells.

Hey BMW, i got a question regarding blank dvd media...

I bought some Memorex blank dvd's....and they usually come 16x now....
I have a dvd-writer up to 8x, and usually when i use to buy blank dvd's, they would come in 8x, now they are mostly 16x and they are hard to find.

basically, i use to be able to write-burn media onto dvd's that were 8x, dvd's in about under 9min...

but the 16x are buring at more than double that at 2.4x speed...
is there a way to adjust it...i don't know how....i am not good with this kind of stuff...
any easy solution?

if your dvd writer is 8x then you should burn your media at a maximum of 8x. even if your media is 16x, it can be burned at 8x.

it's writing it at 2.4x, for the 16x blank dvd's..
and for the blank 8x, it was the normal 8x speed..i believe..

is there a way to adjust it on NERO? it writes it at those speeds when buring media onto disc.

Before you start your burn, doesn't Nero ask you what speed to burn the disc at? You should be able to change it there.

My version of Nero always asks me what speed to burn the disc.

no, it doesn't prompt me what speed to burn the disc,....i just start the burn, unless it is on the menu selection somewhere....i suppose if i can find it, it can't hurt..that if i can change the writing speed from 2.4x to 8x...right?
i have to browse the menu's...knowing how good i am with this stuff....i don't have much hope :beaten:

Never heard of it.

It's probably one of those quickie versions of software that don't let you tweak anything...

I think you're hosed.

well for a full 4gb dvd-write....it'll take 23 min per disc... :beaten:
but atleast i can back up my data and free up much needed HD space for more stuff.

and a 100 discs at 27 cents per piece is not a bad deal for memorex....got it on sale...but painfully slow dvd-writing....at 2.4x  :beaten:
thx for your help anyways...

You must be using Nero 6. I'm using this and it has a Nero Start Smart menu. Anyway, you are making a data disc, right? Before you start burning, there should be drop-down box where you can choose the writing speed. It should look like this
