LOL.

I've seen pictures of really old mice that had two sets of vertical and horizontal wheels rather than the ubiquitous dust-collecting ball that recent mice use... :beaten:

Some small mice for traveling with laptops are still this way. (The one I have actually has only 1 wheel each way.)

every new computer is overpriced...it's the standard business model.

just like the iphone came out for 600 dollars and 10 weeks later it's been reduced to 400 dollars...you think that crap is worth 600 dollars?

Europe too is far ahead of N. America when it comes to 3G networks and smartphone capability.....not on par with the japanese perhaps but ahead of N. America....

i mean look at the Nokia N95....it's outrageously expensive but it's basically a small computer....it does much more than the iPhone.

well when it comes to implementing that type of technology the problem is america is a much larger country than most industrialized countries like japan or germany or sweden, etc.

so putting in place the infrastructure would cost a lot more....but I think companies here are cheap and slow-minded to a certain extent too...

Cool. Man, I am glad you had so much fun...if you get around to it...you can tell us more about it in the I'm Going to Japan thread. I'm sure many would be interested in hearing about your experiences, especially given the fact that you went to Hokkaido and didn't focus your stay in Honshu

That's partly the reason. The other factor is that Americans don't necessarily do lots of things on the phone. Granted, we are beginning to utilize chatting, texting, emailing capabilities. The Japanese use their phones all the time, it seems. They demand faster service and the Japanese companies are willing to oblige. That, and trying to add new towers in America is like pulling teeth on a toothless person. People can environmental, health, and asthetic concerns.

I definitely agree with you...it's just that at some point the innovation relating to cellular and wireless tecnnologies is limited by the infrastructure that developers have to contend with. The applications that could be made if everybody had fiber-optic like speeds would definitely open up new doors for more applications.

For example, in Japan they are already implementing RFID technology into real life applications...price tags, RFID waypoints across Tokyo that transmit geographical information to handheld devices....including information about possible destinations such as stores, restaurants...

We are definitely not as techno savvy as the Japanese in general...but if they began to roll out higher speed networks in at least metropolitan markets llike NYC, S.F., and L.A. it could drive further innovation....

Privacy concerns here. I used Suica and Edy in Japan, and have a Translink RFID card for the bus systems here (soon to be on BART). I also have a Paypass card. I love the speed and ease of them. I would like to see it part of my cell phone, ala Osaifu Keitai (cell wallet) in Japan.

I'm waiting for FIOS to come replace my DSL connection. 10Mbps down/2Mbps up and that's the slowest connection.
