Sorry for drudging up an old topic, but I was wondering if anyone knows how to get Nero Burning ROM to support Japanese characters. I'm in the process of backing up some of my music collection and most of them are in Japanese. Because Nero on my computer doesn't support Japanese, a lot of the songs are labeled like this: "019BA9~1.MP3"

I'm sorry if this has been posted and answered before...and also if I'm posting in the wrong section.

(I also crossposted this on my LJ)

Have you inquired at the Nero site?

For lack of a better solution, you might have to convert all those titles to Romaji...

I haven't inquired about it there. Mostly because this is a pirated copy. :P

And to rename all those files into romaji? Um, now that's just crazy talk! Especially since there's 100+ titles. I know there is a way because I've done it before with someone's help, but I forgot the info on how to do it (and also who helped me). :banghead:

I wouldn't worry about that unless they request a bunch of personal info (name, address, etc.)...

Try Videohelp.com... You'll have to register in order to ask for help in the forum, but there's a ton of helpful folks there.

Or I could ask for you.

Thanks for searching for me, beem. (See, it's not thanksless! :P ) Unfortunately, I have a different problem than that. :( Most of my files are in unicode and it still sprouts up weird file names.

Another example of the weirdness:

Instead of "Shibata Jun - ƒJƒ‰ƒtƒ‹" it says "SHIBAT~1"

Hmm, what version of Nero are you using?

It appears that it might be set up for text strings no longer than eight characters... I think you can change that somewhere in Nero......

I have no idea what version it is and I have no clue how to figure that out.

And as for the 8-character thing, I have some files that are 15+ characters long and they are fine. Those files are all in roman letters, so I'm not sure that the character length is the problem.

You should be able to find out the version by clicking on the Help tab, then clicking on the About Nero selection...

Are there any language settings or other configuration stuff that you can adjust?

It's version 6.3.0.3.

And I don't see any language setting button or anything of that nature on this version. Just to let you know--on my other computer, I have the same version, but it's able to read Japanese files.

In my version of Nero, there's a blue question mark on the opening screen. When you click on it, one of the options is "About", which when clicked on, gives the version number, among other things :) *EDIT* You found it :)

Re. file names: I think you have to enable Joliet file names when burning the CD. See http://searchwinit.techtarget.com/dictionary/definition/what-is-Joliet.html

There should be a setting you can tick for Joliet file names.

Cool! This seems exactly what I'm looking for. However, even though I clicked on "joliet," it still has the same weird filenames. Maybe I need to restart my computer?

Nope, it didn't work. :puppydog:

Shame... I have never had that problem :fingerscrossed:

Since cori is using WinXP, I suggested that she might try using the CD burning feature embedded within XP... Specifically with Windows Explorer: you just drag and drop files to the CD drive location (d:/, e:/, whichever applies)... That program should preserve the Japanese fonts.

I hope.

I have no clue on how to do the CD burning with XP. I don't think that mine came with any extra discs since I just bought the startup disc by itself. Or maybe it did.

It should be able to do it without anything extra being installed. But i've never used XP to burn stuff to CD :beaten:
