Edit: I forgot that I get a teacher's discount. So the cost would be $2407.00. :D
According to the site, the Extreme is only another $275
Better buy the extreme then. $2600 for this rig is expansive.
We bought a similar rig, without monitor or video cards, for $1200 last month. All high end parts. That includes $300 for a 850w PSU and $130 for the case.
According to Apple's website the monitor alone is $899. I have a 27" at work (Samsung 275T), and Future Shop sells it for $1000. It's pretty nice, it has component, s-video, RCA, VGA and DVI inputs as well as Picture in Picture. So you can work, while watching a DVD. Full HD 1920x1200. :)
total: $ 850? (ok, my watercooling stuff worth $250 and Stacker tower $150 not included)
I built this rig as a in between thing, preparing for the cheap quadcores. (a Q6600 is only $250-300 atm) I do lots of DVD9 encoding with DVD-RBPRO, and this system is pretty darn fast already.so I can't be bothered to get a quadcore anymore. (well I will eventually..)
In your case:
add $200 for a 20" widescreen LCD mon
keyboard, mouse, tower and other stuff $100?
even with everything included you wouln't have to spend more than $1200
Since I'm not a gamer, don't keep up with the latest video cards every 6 months or every year.
Presently runnin a GeForce 6200 Turbo Cache. Silent, no fan. :woot:
For the first time since around 2000 - 2002, when I played Diablo 2 and Diablo 2 Expansion: Lord of Destruction, finally have a game that piques my interest:
Hellgate: London
Of course, it's brought to you by the folks who had been Blizzard North, the makers of Diablo and Diablo 2. :applaud:
Time to upgrade my home PC...
New video card... nVidia 8800 GT (when they're back in stock)

Thank you!
I heard a rumour that Mac is releasing the G6 soon, so I think I'll wait. No point buying a G5 when they're ready to release the next ones.
Technically, the Intel machines, aka Mac Pro, are G6 (the G5's were Motorola Procs), same processor family, so no G7 on the horizon. What'll happen is that they'll probably use the new 45nm Quad-Core in the top system.. Should be around Nov 12th-20th.
Not sure if they're updating the dual core machines, but the Quad core seems ripe for an update.
You canadians must get different options than we do.. can't get the HD card, nor the 2.8Gz proc...

I'm guessing this is the iMac line. I priced this same config for US$2418. It comes with the ATI Radeon HD card. And there is the option to go to 2.8GHz Extreme for $250.

OK, so I got my laptop from work the other day. It's not bad, but it needs some sorting out :P First thing to go was the pic of my boss holding a big fish he caught once, that he had set as wallpaper :bleh:
Anyhow, it has built-in wireless, so I went out and bought a new wireless router/modem, a Netcomm NB5Plus4W. And the damn thing doesn't work :banghead: I've been reading up on it, it seems they have put out a few duds :( I think i'll have to take it back next week.

So you inherited your boss' lappy?
Any pics on the lappy that are blackmail material? :beaten:
