the first set, about 8 or 9, i burned at 16x when i first got them and a 16x burner.even though they verfied okay, i lent them out and no one could read them. I scanned them again, and they were all full of errors.
I then burned them at 8x, and that got rid of the instant errors. But about 3 months later, i lent those out and they came back with similar issues. Putting them in Dvd players causes artifacting and pauses.
they may be better now, i dont have any left to give you a media code, but i dont trust them anymore. check your old backups, if they're all okay, then go ahead and get more.. the price is pretty good.
I NEVER burn at full speed. Since most of my burning is authored DVD's and it takes a long time, I leave it burning overnight. So it doesn't matter if it's burning slower than maximum. I usually use 6x, even with 16x discs.

I wonder why all these complications happened. I burn all of my dramas using the Verbatim 16x DVDS and haven't had a problem yet (*knocks on wood*). I don't think anyone has any problem with the discs that I've sent them either.
As for the burn speed, I just go with the default one and it seems to be fine. Maybe I should check to see what speed it's actually burning with just in case.

If they're the same ones you sent me, they're only 8X Verbatims.

I don't buy my media online, only in stores and they mostly have the 16x DVDs. I only sent you the 8x ones because you specified that you prefer those.
krim wrote:i've not had much luck archiving anything burned at over 8x. the media seems to degrade faster burning above that.
Hmm...if that's the case, I wonder why they make anything above 8x. Sure, people may prefer quicker speeds, but if the result is a disc that will degrade over time, then what's the use?

DVD recorders are those standalone DVD players/recorders, not the PC-based ones. :)
My bad. :)

That sucks. Verbatim used to be the, if not, one of the best brand out there. They're crappy, but they're not cheap. :shakehead: The only batch that gave me problems like that was a bunch of no names. Paid $60 for 50, back in the days 10 blanks were $50.
what do you call it when you burn DVDs usually the are burnt turns into a kinda white color but there are parts that are not between the parts that are? but i copied the contents of the dvd and it works fine
anyway, i doubt that the insides are really Sony. dang this country is freaky. i heard that the Sony here uses BENQ lenses.
i use BENQ 16x DVD-R and never have problems. around 30cents/DVD. but it's probably fake too. but it works fine for me

I don't get what you mean...
I've got an Optiarc (Sony-NEC) burner and it's been great so far. *knock on wood*
