So I checked the Mac Rumours site and I think it's safe to go ahead and purchase my new iMac. I'll prolly order it tonight. :woot:

If that's a desktop machine, what'll you do with your lappy, since it's slowly going south?

I think I'll get the LCD replaced. It's still an excellent machine and runs smoothly, so I don't want to get a new laptop too...

I dunno. $900 is a lot to replace the screen, but I'll still be using my laptop at work so it might be worth it.

Itai.

So the sum total for an new PC and a repair will around $3300CAN...

Gomen, but that's outrageous.

It is. I'm not gonna do it all in one go tho. I'll get the iMac first... and then wait a few months before repairing the laptop.

For $900, you could buy a new laptop, albeit a PC, not a Mac.

I was thinking that, but it's more beneficial for me to get a mac laptop because I teach on them. Both my Media Arts class and Film and Video class are taught on macs (PCs can't handle the work) and it's easier for me to mark and such when I have a mac as well.

Then maybe should should buy a new Mac lappy and get a desktop PC for conversion/authoring/etc.... Seems to make more sense.

Oh wait, you're a Canadian. :beaten:

But I don't need to author/convert. I only do that for cori and others who don't like data discs. Most of the people I trade with with DVD players that play divX, so it's not an issue.

And proud of it!

I have to agree with you.

Do you have a vga/dvi out? You could always plug in a monitor and use your old laptop as a desktop PC and buy a new laptop with the money your saving on the repair. :)

That's a cool idea.

But she's got money to burn, so "Flame On!" :hehe:

Actually, just buy a new Mac laptop... Why have a desktop machine at all?

I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right thread (I'm sure someone will correct me though :P ), but I'm wondering what type of wireless mouse is good. I'm looking for one that has a long battery life because I currently change batteries once a month with the one that I use.
9 Nov 2007, 03:56 #4013
Logitech VX Nano Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks

Longer battery life: Get up to 6 months of use (or longer with the convenient on/off switch). :)

Why does it have to be wireless?

Are you 20 feet away from your PC?

A good, wired infrared mouse should do the trick and save you the battery hassle.

I still think you should try and get it fixed under warranty. Just tell them that you know there's a lot of people who have had the same problem and had them fixed under warranty, even though they are out of the warranty period ;)

I think I saw something like that in Walmart. It was about $45. But if it's good, I'd probably buy it.

It's for my laptop and since I'm usually relaxing in bed while I'm on it, it's more convenient to have a wireless mouse.

I thought of that, too, but I'd rather just get a new desktop.

bmwracer wrote:Actually, just buy a new Mac laptop... Why have a desktop machine at all?

I haven't had a desktop in 10 years and because this laptop is good (except for the LCD), I'm reluctant to replace it. Regardless of having "money to burn", I like to spend reasonably.
