Sorry, that's what I meant... as opposed to data DVD's :P
I have no problem with copying video DVDs, but it's just once in a while I come across weird discs like the ones I mentioned. I once gave similar discs to shin2 and he was able to copy them with some external copier, so it's probably my computers/program that are faulty here.
You could try something like Isobuster http://www.isobuster.com/isobusterdownload.php which just creates an exact copy (disc image) of whatever's in your drive..

I use Nero to make exact copies of the DVD that's in the drive and it works fine with the exception of some discs.
Ok, my brother told me to download and run Nero CD Speed and I used it to scan the disc. Apparently it has (so far) 44.4% bad sectors, so it's just a bad burn. Looks like I'll have to contact the person and get a bunch of replacement discs. :(
Seems like I might have to get more replacement discs than expected because I tried checking the other discs to see if they were copyable and most of them weren't even though I could view them on my stand-alone DVD player. This is not good.

Uh, make sure to buy the right RAM this time............... :beaten:
I think the problem could very well be my ancient computer/burner. But I haven't really had problems with copying for the most part--just a few bad discs here and there. I'm having my brother check out the discs with his computer and he's going to get back to me tonight or tomorrow. Here's hoping that we'll get to the bottom of all of this.

Um, your standalone player can read 'em, but do you see any glitching in the video/audio?
Standalone player are a lot more forgiving when it comes to bad data as opposed to DVD drives in a PC...
It might not be possible, but it helps if you have another PC with another drive just to verify the readability of the disc(s)...

My standalone can read all of them except for 5 discs. I also tried watching a couple of discs on my laptop, but nothing happened either. I'm having my brother check on that too.
And I just talked to my brother a little while ago and he said that he was able to copy the discs that I wasn't able to, so apparently my dvd burner sucks. :grumble: Odd, since I'm currently making copies of another drama and it seems to be working fine. Still, I guess it's time to invest in another burner. Or maybe even a new computer.

Maybe not.
DVD burners/readers are rather fickle at times: some disc brands they can read better than others... Even within a brand itself is no guarantee.
Did you check the discs to see if they were clean and spotless?
That's why having a second burner (and from another manufacturer) could be a good thing... I've got an NEC-Sony in my main PC and my previous burner, a Pioneer, in the other.
I had some problems with a couple of discs that shin2 sent me, but my Pioneer was able to read them with minimal grief. :)

Well the discs were Verbatims.
I tried burning it with my desktop (Pioneer DVD drive) and with my laptop (Sony drive) and both didn't work. My brother tried it with his burner (can't remember what brand it was) and he was able to make a copy with that.
My guess is that my equipment should be replaced. The desktop and burner are more than 5 years old and my laptop's drive is temperamental.

I had to resort to using WinPatrol because Spybot's Teatimer would no longer deny loading of Startup software as per my requests....at least this software works as advertised. Good rec, thanks.
