I need some advice/help about wireless connections. My wireless connection has been iffy as of late and I wonder if a change in wireless cards would help. I'm browsing through the forums at dial-up speeds, waiting for pictures to load and my bittorrent downloads don't even crack 10Kb/s. I've tried moving the modem/router away from other wireless devices like the phone, and also move any devices around my computer that might hinder the connection. Not much luck so far. It's really frustrating.
If anyone has any advice or suggestions, I'd really appreciate it.

Obvious question: Is there any metal between you and the transmitter?
I guess switching to a wire is out of the question, ne?
deseipher wrote:The door knob :beaten:
There's nothing in the hallway between where the router is and my room. The router is sitting by its lonesome out in the hallway.
Switching to wire is an option, but it's more like a last resort if I can't figure what's wrong with the connection.
The connection worked fine last week before I left for the weekend, but it's been iffy since I got back.

Is there any software that comes with the receiver that gives any inkling about signal strength or the like?
deseipher wrote:No software, I just depend on the driver Vista provides. Usually I get a poor signal, but most of the time my download speeds are in line with what I usually got with a wired connection.

The best thing is to go with the hard line (a la The Matrix). :)
deseipher wrote:I'll just go the wired route tomorrow. I searched online for any solutions, but the few things I've tried don't seem to work. Kinda frustrating to go through the Juri-chan thread while waiting for the pictures to load :puppydog:
Thanks for the help though. :victory:

Sorry I couldn't be of more help...
I suppose it could be a hardware issue, but I don't know if you have access to extra hardware to swap out and test...

I tried tinkering around with some other modem/router settings late last night, but not much of a difference. It's good enough I can browse the Intertubes without having to wait long for pics to load.

Ah, I remember you mentioned that a while back... No visits from the FCC? :beaten:

LOL.
Is that a HD hat or is it still SD? :hehe:
Anime Dad wrote:Why are you asking? Are you the FCC? What hat? Are you the one sending those voices? Are you from Venus?

If it was HD, I'd make one for myself and save about $50. :victory:
