sadacori wrote:I have the shitty Windows Vista and I was wondering if it was possible to make it so that when I open up multiple tabs of Firefox (or any other program) it wouldn't stay in just one stack, which is frustrating as hell when trying to toggle between each file/application. With Windows XP, when you open up any file, it opens them up side-by-side instead of in a stack. I don't know how to explain this without it sounding stupid. I hope someone can help me out. :fingerscrossed:

You mean in the taskbar at the bottom of your screen? Hmmm, I guess it depends how many things you have open. My Vista comp doesn't stack unless there is no more room for applications on the bar (but that's at 1280 res.)
Don't you have tabbed browsing set up in Firefox??
sadacori wrote:
Yeah, I mean the taskbar on the bottom. Even if I just have one FIrefox window open and I open up another one, it automatically gets stacked into a bunch, which is really frustrating when I have to click and select which window I want to view EVERY SINGLE TIME. Sorry for the outburst, but I"ve been dealing with this since I got this damn laptop and I'm hot and fed up with it already. :grumble:

Yeah, I see. But why open up new windows of Firefox when you can use tabs? :headscratch:

I'd rather deal with opening up a new window when I'm working on my site and stuff. This is especially frustrating when I'm typing stuff out on multiple notepads because not being able to just click each one without having to take that extra step is frustrating. I usually need to see each notepad thingy. Here's a picture to explain what I mean:

With that screenshot, you can see that notepad is not even visible since I have more than 2 applications open. Even if it were in the picture, there's a little arrow (like how it shows on Firefox window) when there's more than 2 of the same applications open. It's quite frustrating and I wish to know how to get it so I can have more than 2 things open at the time and it'll show on the taskbar below.

Right-click on the taskbar and see if "Lock the Taskbar" is unchecked. Uncheck it and you might see a divider to the left of the applications. Just hover your mouse around that area and see if you can move it.

Omg, it worked like a charm! I love you!!! :D

Oh, I've hated this OS from the start, but I dealt with it. I'm also having speed (or rather, slow) issues too, but since I can download from my desktop, it doesn't bother me too much.

You'll get used to it, eventually  At the very least you get a chance to try Vista out. Not sure where you bought your laptop from, but you can see if the manufacturer offers a downgrade, or upgrade depending on your Vista experience, disc to XP in case Vista refuses to cooperate.
I had speed issues in the beginning with Vista, but it was due to all the prefetching being done in the background. The sound coming from my hard drive during that period wasn't pretty. After a while Vista will figure out which programs you use most often and give those priority so they'll open up a liittle quicker.

I honestly rather have XP like many others. That being said, it does work, but it's just frustrating to have to do extra steps in order for stuff to work. For instance, if there's a way to turn off that "do you really, really, REALLY want to delete/move/whatever this file????" crap then I'd be really grateful. Another issue I have is when I'm using an FTP thingy to upload stuff to my site, I have to manually type the folder I want to browse in and I never had to do that with my other laptop or desktop, both have XP installed. Vista may not be the culprit here, but as many people like blaming Bush for all their problems, I like blaming Vista for all mine.

Not quite sure about the problem you have with browsing folders, but if you can provide a screencap, I can try to see if I can be of any help there.
sadacori wrote:
I'll get a screencap later tonight or some time tomorrow since I'm not able to go online at work with my laptop.
Also, do you know how to deal with slow downloading issues? It's quite annoying when my old crappy desktop can download quicker than my slightly new laptop.
deseipher wrote:
Are you having issues downloading stuff directly from a site, or downloading using programs like Bittorrent? Is it a wired or wireless connection?
I've had issues lately with my wireless connection, but I guess wireless connections will have it quirks. A wired connection I don't think there should be any problem with downloading directing from a site, server, or whatever it's called, but with a program like Bittorrent you'll probably need to adjust firewall settings.
sadacori wrote:
Downloading from Megaupload. And it's a wired connection.
deseipher wrote:
Hm, I've yet to run into a problem with a wired connection, so I won't be much help here  I guess it could be a driver issue with the ethernet connection. What the brand and model of the laptop you're using? I could check the specs of the laptop to see what kind of connection it uses and see if they are any solutions out there.
