Ooh, I'll try that out when I get home. Thanks! :D

Nice :victory: I was clueless to not even think about any pre-installed programs that might hinder downloads.

I've also heard that some comps that have Realtek network cards had an updated Vista driver that stuffed up download speeds horribly. But I don't know if that's cori's problem since she has a laptop which may have an inbuilt network card. If it does, it's just a matter of rolling back the driver for the card.

That's so idiotic: why would Dell load a machine with the McAfee firewall when it knows that Microsoft has it's own firewall?
That's typical of a store-bought PC: it's loaded with tons of trial version crap that clogs up your PC. :grumble:

Because we want computers that are cheaper and cheaper, the OEMs license installations of commercial software into their packages. For about a day, Sony offered to sell their Vaios with no crap on them for $50 extra.. but they got shot down by popular opinion.

Thus the reason NOT to buy OEM PCs... At least from the big boys (Dell, HP, Compaq, etc.) :bleh:
Anime Dad wrote:So true. I would never buy a Dell/HP/Compac box. I'd rather put one together myself :D
If I knew what I was doing, I'd totally put one together myself. But since I'm not, I just bought a Dell to spare everyone on this board the millions of questions I would have. :beaten:

Yup.
Though, not everyone has that option... I wonder if buyers can request that Dell/HP/Compaq/etc. not install all that junk.... I mean, it's your money, shouldn't you get what you want and not all that extraneous garbage?

Laptops are a different story too. You can't build your own laptop from bits :grumble:

You should learn to do it yourself, but have him help you... If you're gonna do all this PC-related stuff, it's a good learning experience.
If it wasn't for the distance (obviously), I'm sure any of us would be more than willing to help. :victory:
Anime Dad wrote:The time is almost upon us when we can trade dramas on thumb drives. The sweet spot is currently 16G: You can pick them up on Ebay for around $30.
The first one I got for work was a 64MB, cost $120
That's nice, I should look into getting one if 16GB drives are that cheap. That's plenty of room for music and videos to take with me whenever I visit home. I usually take my external drive, and while that has served me well having a USB flash drive would be more convenient. Less to carry with me on the train ride. :victory:
