You seem to be making more work and hassle for yourself, huh?

EDIT: And please stop spamming your posts with pics.... Save it for their respective threads. :shakehead:

I apologize, no harm was intended. :banghead: True, tend to make things harder on myself, once the other file I'm downloading is finished I'll yours and AD's suggestions, thanks for both your help, :applaud: sorry again, didn't really realize what I was doing.

^ An occasional pic for comic effect is fine, but it gets old and redundant if you overdo it... Sorry for being a pill.

Update on what I've done. Downloaded Adreline Drive from torrent from the site you recommended, instead of just one file got split into 5 files. Don't know if it's my computer which does it, but when it gets to .99gb another file is created, files are created are in the .vob format. No major problem if it's hard subbed like this film, can easily transfer it to disc. Using DVD shrink though, can it be used to download the file so as to keep it in one file? Sorry, tend to be a bit slow on some of these things. :beatyou:

The standard DVD-Video format ALWAYS breaks up the files into 1GB .vob files... It's normal: take a look at ANY of your store-bought DVDs and they ALL have that structure.

If they don't have that structure, all or most set-top DVD players will not play the video.

It was probably ripped from a DVD-9 disc.... That's why you need to use DVD Shrink.... Or burn a DVD using a dual-layered DVD (DVD-9).

The upcoming MSI Air Keyboard is an HTPC keyboard and mouse combo that fits right in your hands much like a game controller. The unit features a full QWERTY keypad with an accelerometer within that is able to turn the mini keyboard into an air mouse. The device interprets tilting the keyboard up and down, left and right as mouse movements with the mouse left and right buttons mounted on the shoulders of the keyboard. Through a USB dongle, the MSI Air can connect to PCs and Macs up to 160 feet away. Available for $89.99.

Not sure if this is the right thread but here goes.

Recently for some reason when I download a video it will do fine until I try to open it up. then everything vanishes. I cannot find it in My docs which is my favourite resting place. It is not in C:Docs either.
It does not even show up in that small listing of recent downloads. Something eats it up. this has happened a few times and It drives me crazy. I have lots of codecs and etc programmes so I don't know where to start looking.

If anyone has any ideas I would be grateful. Please remember I have a very old brain so don't get overly technical...! :bonk:

Did you choose a particular location to save to when the download starts? Did you try to open the file before the download finished? You wrote everything vanished when you try to open the file but this sounds a bit strange to me since there is not much to see before you open the file... so I was thinking if something happened during the download.

Hi xploring.

No the download was finished completely. Ready to click 'Open folder' and although it was headed for C:\Docs. it was nowhere to be found. It is not the first time this has happened, and since I have had technician to add another external HD some items have changed apart from d/l. Lots of files that used to be opening with BS player have changed to VLC. Really this PC has a mind of it's own at times. I have known how to d/l for years. I know how to put Eng.subs onto videos etc .Lots of stuff I can do but I'm darned if I can find these mysterious missing d/loads.

It's frustrating because they are hidden in there somewhere. :bonk:

thanks for post

I don't know. May be you can try using a download manager and see what happens. Is this for direct download or bit torrent or some other form of download?

JDownloader is convenient for downloading from MegaUpload and other direct download sites, so may be you can try that.

Just bittorrent but I am not going to climb the walls anymore. I am going to wait until I can talk to my techie. He is one great computer guy apart from it being his job. I can live without the video but I don't want to screw up my other stuff on the computer.

I appreciate your input.

Looks like I need to buy a new DVD burner: my five year old Pioneer seems to have died.

Looks like this is the month of computer parts failing...over the weekend my external hard drive failed. This is where I kept all my image files. I can still see the images when I pull up the directory (that is, when the HD decides to allow viewing it), but I can't transfer or save because of an I/O error. I've been able to save about 60% of the files, but I'm still working on the rest...seems the drive decides how long it works.

That is, until it stops completely.

p.s. and I know I should have backed stuff up. I'm always telling people they should back up their files...then what do I do? Yeah, I didn't back it up. :bonk:

Try to back up as much as you can, though... You never can tell with those analysis/repair tools.

Looks like my Pioneer burner is shot: doesn't recognize DVDs at all... Though it seems to have no problem with reading or burning CDs. :heasdscratch:

Groan. :bleh:
