Two monitors? I betcha they sent two out on FedEx as a test. In the company's mind, by sending two, you would expect to get one. Shocking that FedEx actually delivered the two in good condition. :hehe:

one time, i ordered a Cambridge SW speaker set for my pc, from Newegg and they sent me 2 as well...
except they came in the same box... being the honest person i was, i sent one back, and they credited my purchase...

Very shocking, considering the other one was thrashed.
I called the seller about the two monitors and the guy screamed "Jeez, what are they doing over there??" :hehe:
I did mention that it's Xmas time and things like this happen, and he chuckled and agreed.
Right now, my entry looks like a monitor warehouse... :beaten:
Most of the parts have arrived::woot:
POWER: SeaSonic 600W silent power supply
CASE: Lian Li PC-52 aluminum compact ATX
CPU: AMD Opteron 170 dual core
RAM: Corsair TwinX2048-4000PT 2GB
VIDEO: EVGA GeForce 6200TC w/128MB
SOUND: Creatve SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme Music
HDD: Seagate 160GB 7200 RPM SATAII
DVD/RW: NEC ND-3550A 16x DVD burner / 8x Dual Layer
CASE FANS: Vantec 92mm & Enermax 80mm
Still waiting for the ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard. Ordered one from Monarch, it's due in early January.
Note that I don't play games, just wanted a silent video card to go with my overall very silent PC. In February there should be new cards from nVidia, may upgrade to a different silent video card.
Cheers, :drink:

That's an awesome rig :naughty:
but I wonder why you'd pick a SLI board when you don't play games? you surely won't need 600W for that. (there's lot cheaper PSUs out there that are super quiet too) and also what kinda applications will you be running to make use of dualcore?

My pc was almost silent appart from the fan on my nvidia 7800, which was bloody loud. Ended up getting a replacement fan by Arctic Cooling after a friend of mine was praising one, and have to say it's a god send! Keeps the gpu frosty cool, and nearly silent :)
Nice rig btw! Dual cores are shiny, love my 4400+ :D
yeah those artic silencers are pretty good, I used to have one on my 9700pro . best of all they are cheap - the fan can be noisy after a year or 2 though.
since you have a dualcore too mrmacca, do you really gain performance over a singlecore? ie. what kinda stuff are you running that truly benefits from it? and are they good overclockable like the venice cores?

I don't know how I would go about comparing it, my last cpu was an amd 2500, and it shits all over that :)
I do a digital animation course at university, so my computer is always on rendering something or other, so dual core is perfect for my needs in this sense, also makes running multiple programs a lot better.
Not got it overclocked at the moment! Will be doing so over the next week after I give it a format and a bit of a spring clean for the start of a new film project, so will post up how well it does then, although from what I hear it does quite well, and Ive got a pretty hardcore fan on there :)

Thanks.
Bought the A8N32-SLI & Seasonic power supply for a number of reasons:
1. 8 Phase Power (motherboard)
Delivers power much more stably to all components
2. Upgradeability (power supply)
If I want to upgrade to more power-hungry parts I've got spare power
3. Flexibility (motherboard)
If I want to go RAID5 or SLI or overclock
4. Silent Running (motherboard and power supply)
Motherboard is passively cooled, PS runs near silent
Essentially, the case, power supply, and motherboard are the foundation of a PC, so one should choose carefully.
Use my PC for doing SysEng work when I'm at home, for transcoding music and movies (CPU intensive), editing photos, and surfing the Internet.
If a game comes out that looks interesting, I may upgrade my video card -- EVGA has an upgrade program -- to whatever is needed. Last games that interested me were Baldur's Gate II and Diablo 2.

yeah, that's a problem, my 3000+ runs at 4200+ but I don't know anyone that has a dualcore to lend me to test out :hehe: reading reviews gets you so far cos every system is/performs different, but yeah if you're upgrading from an older generation CPU why not go X2 :victory:
pcmodem: I didn't mean to go el cheapo, just pointing out there's great variety of choices that could save you money.
On a side note I just bought the Hiper Modular Type-R 580W to replace my Zalman 400W. no more cablemess in my tower :woot: I wanted to go for the Enermax 500W Liberty, but that one wasn't available till next month here sadly.

I am using English version of Windows XP SP2.

Ok it's that time for me to upgrade comps again... well actually since I'm pissed off at how long it takes to encode a video :hehe: :hehe:
So I'm looking at either the Intel 840 or the 3.73 GHz Extreme Edition CPU. The 840 is dual core but I figured it shouldn't affect my encode too much since I'm only going to do 1 encode at a time anyways. I wanted to know if anyone is using or has used either of these chips and if they have an opinion on them. I know AMD's 4800+ is kicking the 840's ass so I might consider waiting for Intel's 900 series but I've always longed for the 3.73 GHz EE chip and now the price is actually dropping a bit for it.

What kind of CPU are you running atm?
I wouldn't waste money on the higher priced Intels atm (not that I'm anti-Intel) but they are slower, cost more, consume alot more energy: I can't think of any reason to get one really, dualcore or not: AMD is the way to go.
yes they might beat AMD at video encoding, but it's only marginal. like a few mins in realtime.

Must be nice to have a parent who's in the industry and has access... ;)

I got a few dual core 3.4Ghz at work. They're great, but the intel fan sucks. Our CPU are mostly at 100% all day long and get hot (70C ~ 158F) easily. It could be the cases though, they are rackmount cases.
The Asus Motherboard doesn't like the ATI video cards, but works fine with a Nvidia GeForce 6800. With an ATI card, the computer crashed every minute or so, but since with changed all the cards, 4 months ago, we never had problems.
Most of the stuff we use are multi-thread and we use more than one app at the same time, so there's a difference with our old PCs, but their clock speed are slower too.

Currently 3.0Ghz Northwood with a gig of DDR 400 RAM. I'm pretty much intel branded so it's gonna be an intel chip. I'm not really at all impressed with the dual core at the moment, that and it seems to have many problems with it's 4 pipelining system so if I do go dual core, it will be in the 900 series. Unfortunately that doesn't satisfy my urge for a new comp, lol. I'm really intrigued at the 3.73 EE, especially with the whopping 1066ghz FSB! I was looking at the intel site and it says the chip has 64 bit extensions, any truth in this?
Can you guys give me some recommendations on good, (reasonably priced ) portable, external hard drives?
I have to have all of my files transferred to an external hard drive so that my computer can be wiped clean and reprogrammed. Please help me guys. bmwracer? krim? anybody... :puppydog:
:hehe: Seriously though. I need your advice guys.
