More than likely, her PC has USB ports, but not a FireWire port...
I think I've seen 250GB USB external drives at Fry's for around $150+... Some maybe even cheaper with rebates ( :bleh: )...

My guideline for externals is that it shouldn't be more than 40-45% of the drive capacity is a good deal...
ie.. 250gb drive, if you can it for under $120, that'd be a good deal on a pre-made external.

Newegg has the Inoi 360U-250 250GB USB 2.0 7200RPM external hard drive for $130 - $40 rebate (exp 12/31) + $7 shipping = $97 shipped.
Just make sure you don't buy one with a cheap plastic case. They have a lot of heat problems.

 What's with the :bleh:? I see that you're just as cheeky as ever. That's a good thing though. Thanks for the info. And no, my little cheap computer doesn't have a firewire port. I with it did though :grumble:.
Thanks for the info krim. I'm gonna go check that out because I need one STAT.
Anymore suggestions?
If you find a model/brand you like, look for it at Amazon.com: they might try to beat the price and/or have free shipping and no sales tax. :D

The holiday season doesn't quell my cheekiness. ;)
The :bleh: ? Rebates.
Hate dem rebates.
Really? Why do you hate rebates? I've never really sent off for one, but my parents have and they seem to have the same perception of rebates that you do :hehe:.
So you're not feelin' the holidays right now?

hmm.. that one i posted doesn't seem to have a fan, i DO NOT recommend it... unless you're just going to turn it on to backup and then shut it off after.

It's been discussed to death before, but they're just a sham by manufacturers to sucker people to buy their products.

So-so.

buying it online and paying for expedited shipping may negate any savings you find.
I checked most of my usual sources and nothing is really on sale... maybe after new years, there'll be some better deals.
Hmm lets seeee.... Currently in my home office, I have 4 computers. On my desk, I have 2 PC's (1 with dual monitors), on my wifes desk there is 1 PC. In the living room I have 1 laptop. Technically I have 5, but my iBook is kinda broken right now.
I enjoy using Windows and Macs, it doesnt matter. I use Macs at work and Windows at home, its all good. Oh, and I love gadgets and neato electronics. I have drawing tablets, mp3 players, webcams, digital camcorder, digital camera, and pretty much anything else that somehow connects to a computer. Weeeeee!

I installed the Swing Web UI for Azureus so I can keep track of my torrents from wherever. I can even add new torrents even when I'm not home.

I figured someone must have written it, so I checked:
http://azureus.sourceforge.net/plugin_details.php?plugin=webui
So far, it looks good, except I didn't fully configure it correctly. So I can't add new torrents right now, but I'll fix that once I get home later.
Thanks for the info.
