Question is, did all of your MIRs come through?

Yup, it was from Western Digital, so it was safe. Though having that much money in the hands of who-knows-who was a bit weary.
That drive is being used for BT downloads. I'm afraid I've pushed it to its edge. I'm hearing sounds come from it. It might be time to replace it.

i missed it the first time, but i was amazed at the price, so i read it again.
at least WD drives have a 5 yr warranty.
oh.. those things..

Then Doch should contact WD... Maybe he can get a new freebie drive. :)

I'll check the warranty card if I find it. It should be online as well. In retrospect, I did use and abuse that drive. At one point, my machine was on for 35 straight days, and only a vacation put an end to that streak.

now that is one hell of a price, great deal. you guys should find the best deals, but black friday? that like a huge long wait in line similar to day after thanksgiving/xmas?

that's not abuse, if it was, then i'd be.. uh.. a really bad charles manson like person..
my boot drive (40gb seagate) has been running almost continuously since i got it in 2002.. save for power outages, swapping hardware and vacations and really hot days in the summer...
i rarely shut my g4 down, since i used to run SETI, then went to the dnet projects, and now im doing protein folding.

If it's five years, heck if it's two years, I think I can cause the drive to die....after I backup the files on it of course. :hehe:

It was that long at Circuit City. Everyone was after the laptops/computers. I just needed the drive and made a beeline for them. I was in and out in 45 minutes (I took a look at the other stuff there ;) ). And I got a bagel and OJ to boot! :woot:

That's only a mere 840 hours... The MTBF for hard drives is like 20K-30K hours, which is almost three years of continual running, ne?

That's true.
The streak was the longest. I've had others of 25-30 days (interrupted by the occasionally hotfix).
But I'm wondering if this drive will be on the low end of the mean time.
Just got myself a new Seagate SATA 400gb HD. Boy formatting this bad boy takes a while
