I don't like games. I don't like the element of manipulation of one's feelings and emotions. I'd rather something straight foward, clear, and from the heart. Mebbe that's why I'm still single?

Perhaps...

I think that a person's likes and dislikes are often compromised when trying to get close to someone... at least early on.

I think very few people LIKE to mess with peoples' emotions and insecurities in order to get close to them... but I think for many people it's a defense mechanism and a screening process. It's very difficult and risky to "let it all hang out" when it comes to courting people you don't know.

You did. I re-posted the same pic in this thread a while ago when cori asked if anyone knew any eligible bachelors in Hawaii :)

Yes! Personality and comfort are key.

Mind you, I don't know myself well enough to get into a relationship and trust my instincts. I've never been in a "real" relationship before, and I've only ever had three crushes in my entire life (one very recently). For all I was disgustingly disillusioned (though thankfully).

I do agree that you have to proactive, but I think one needs to be highly motivated as well. I don't mind being single. I'd like to be romantically involved. I have patience. I have no hope.

rest assured, opportunities lay just a knock away, now if only find some doors myself to knock on...lol, it can be frustrating.
I think that is a good way to observe relationships and what we seek from them, by how well we know ourselves and what we want from them. Instincts, yea they can be important gauging on the level of trust and security when getting close to someone new in a relationship. What constitutes an actual real relationships, i almost forgot what that feels like...after some time casually dating, it leaves a person wanting more, and wondering if there is someone truly out there for them. Ah...but to have patience, is to hold onto hope, and faith. Sometimes mine do waiver some, but that is something we must hold onto and never give up on. Singleness is a choice, but sometimes it is a circumstancial place, where we seek to abandon, and adjoin with someone new, hopefully not out of convenience and comfort, but something that someone can provide us as we can for them, in a blossoming relationship.
