Good idea. Just don't forget that when you log on Saturday, you post accordingly in the "What Do You Do On Saturday?" thread.

also try 'geisha of gion' if you haven't already. it's written by a true geisha and will probably give you a better insight into the exclusive world of geisha than 'memoirs...'

oh, ok! thanks. i'll go look for it then. i've been reading "memoirs" because they're making a movie out of it and i like reading the books before seeing the movie. i only started it and it's pretty ok so far.

i like to read the book before seeing the film also. i've just finished 'the da vinci code' and am looking forward to the film when it's finally released.

I've been reading The Elephant Vanishes, a collection of short stories by Murakami Haruki.

I read Kafka on the Shore before that, but i preferred Hardboiled Wonderland and the End of the World.

Choke by Chuck Palaniuk, or something like that... I always screw u[ his name, but he's also the author of Fight Club

Kenjilina,

Have you read the Wind-Up Bird Chronicle?

Also, i've never read Choke, but i've read Haunted and Diary, which are both interesting. Very bleak though.

Diary has a really interesting style to it.

^^ I haven't read those. But Lullaby is one of my favorite books to date. Still a bit warped and morbid (It's about a couple of people trying to prevent the reading/listening to of an African Culling song used to kill people, that was haphazardly put into a book of nursery rhymes from around the world and sold in bookstores everywhere) but very good.

And I happened to start The Wind Up bird chronicle not too long ago.

You gotta love those buy 2 get 1 free sales at Borders :hehe:

i will after 'kafka on the shore' i wonder what haruki eats that makes him think of these stories? :hehe:

Lullaby. I knew there was one book of his i'd forgotten to mention, and that's the one. Really enjoyable.

I like the kind of subtle weirdness Murakami puts in all his stories.

The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle is cool. Interestingly enough, the first story in the Elephant Vanishes is pretty much the first chapter of the Wind-Up Bird Chronicle.

Strangely enough, both the long and short versions work quite well by themselves.
