This sucks. It's as humid as a sauna today, so I put the airconditioning on. But somebody keeps turning it off. There's a lot of windows open around the building, but I don't get any fresh air because my office is the only one that doesn't have a window. :banghead:

That's like my office: no windows, just brick.
I do have a box fan to go along with the A/C, since my office gets rather toasty when I have all of the equipment turned on.
Yeah, it wouldn't be an issue for me if I had a window. But a fan would just blow paperwork everywhere.
And it's obvious that people are feeling the stuffiness, otherwise they wouldn't have all the windows open.

I sent an email to one of our Japanese suppliers, Yukiko san, today - half in Japanese, (because I know her English is poor) half in English (because I didn't know enough Japanese to ask her the technical question I wanted to ask!)
She replied also in half English, half Japanese. But she also said she is coming to Sydney soon to visit our company, and wants me to be her interpreter! Now that's scary!

This could be fun AD!! Just remember not too worry about making mistakes because you WILL make mistakes. But so will she. And spending some time with a native Japanese speaker will definitely improve your skills. Ganbarre yo!! :woot: [/list:u]

I wish I could be as supportive as Musa, but I think I agree with B-san. Being a translator is no easy job, especially since you would be her only means of communication... and we all know how important communication is. If you aren't fluent, I wouldn't do it. You wouldn't be helping if you did.
Now, speaking with her to improve your own skill is another thing completely. She would be a great resource for you.

Ditto this. Even I wouldn't attempt to be anyone's translator. Whenever I "talk" with a Japanese person, I'm constantly going "mou ichido, itte kudasai" (please say it again). Not to mention, the person who's going to AD's office will most likely use business terms and such, which is even harder. However, if the woman knows some English, it shouldn't be too bad...I hope.
Yeah, i'm going to politely decline. Like Soco-chan said, there could be a lot of technical terms flying around. While I could probably hold a friendly chat, my Japanese is nowhere near good enough to interpret

But nonetheless a nice opportunity to test your level in an informal chat

Yup.
You could bring down your company without even trying.

You could say you can help her casually with simple words or phrases... I wonder was that invitation to be her translator meant to be a complement of your Japanese? Anyway, good luck, it will be a good practice opportunity. :)

Is that the "germs" one? :hehe:
sadacori wrote:Is that the "germs" one? :hehe:
Right on. :victory:
It spoiled the merger between Pendant Publishing and that Japanese company. :hehe:

LOL. My Japanese ain't that good, and nor is her English :)
It will be cool to have a chat though. If I get the opportunity...

PAR-TAY!!!
Had a customer come in tonight (old guy with snow-white toupe) who asked for a "diet" vanilla latte.... made with heavy whipping cream. Dude, you know that's over 1000 calories? So "diet" of you.
We have a Cambodian guy here, and today he said something was as easy as "shooting ducks in a barrel". I think he either meant "fish in a barrel" or "ducks on a pond"
