You donft have to be a tech junkie to know that Sony is trying mighty hard to re-gain lost ground. New CEO, new plans for the Playstation, but unfortunately, there is rumbling online that the Sony MiniDisc (MD) format may soon bite the dust. The news is coming from some pretty credible MD folks over at Sony Voice, an independent discussion board on all things Sony.

Our Take: Sony Restructure + New Focus = No Mini Disc. I know MD nuts who will literally cry at the news, but this looks like a category that just never caught on the way Sony imagined.

It is becoming clear with the recent restructuring of Sony that the Minidisc format may soon become extinct. Hell, QUALIAfs out the door, whatfs really stopping us from thinking MD isnft next? Even in Sonyfs Annual Report for 2005, which in every previous year has featured a MD unit mentioned positively or pictured in one form or another, cited: In the portable audio market, trends and ways of enjoying music are changing rapidly as consumer preferences shift from CD-based and MD-based products to those with flash memory and HDDs. In spring 2005, we released our latest Network Walkman, reinforcing our lineup of Walkman portable audio products in the Japanese market, which until then comprised the CD Walkman and the MD Walkman. truthfully, from a business standpoint, the only reason MD survived in JAPAN for as long as it did was because sony spent an ungodly amount of money to market the format...but technical evolution trumps that...

for example...the ipod NANO...recent korean breakthroughs in flash memory technology enabled the creation of the nano...case in point, the nano houses samsung flash memory chips....

in fact, samsung just recently announced that they have created a flash memory chip capable of 16GB of memory....wholesaled at about 100 bucks a pop.

man...i read this one guy's post on this thread and he said he had an OC 3 hard line with 155 MEGAbit download...the jpg he attached showed him downloading every episode of Love Generation simultaneously...looked as if he could download the whole series in an hour.

I would've sucked up all that bandwidth. Then I would've gotten bandwidth capped by the university. But I'd be swimming in mounds of DVDs full of programs.

Honestly, I'm dragging my feet on that, mainly 'cause I know they're gonna jack up the price after the year's over... :sweat:

thanks Enna for the suggestion, i know we're all in high risk here and there wasnt a day that never crossed my mind but theyre not sure if thats a possibility, theyre just saying that to pay high expenses, but maybe right? and dont mean to sound like an ass here and i really really appreciate that you're concern, but for now no one calls our landline except stupid telemarketers, my friends and family calls me in my cell.. so whats the point right? thats extra payment. :beaten:

i use sbc it's around 20 something, but the connection is really good. never get cut off ^^
