celebrated his succession in carrying the stage name Ichikawa Ebizo, and his ceremonial performance has been very popular. The Ichikawas are the representative of Edo Kabuki and the event celebrating the succession in carrying the name is rather glorious. A packed house showed the mood of the audience in welcoming a new hero. During his evening performance, he announced, "According to custom, I will show you the traditional fierce look." And as he gave a perfect rendition of the typical look of the Ichikawas, the audience applauded and shouted with excitement and total satisfaction.
"Happy to be glared at!" or "Narita-ya" is the typical response to the scene. The new Ebizo bears a close resemblance to his grandfather (the ninth Ebizo) who was extremely popular right after the war and started a fad called "Ebi-sama".
Ebizo's afternoon program included "Shibaraku", one of the most popular Kabuki plays since 1967, which he performed for the first time and his evening program included "Kanjincho". In Kanjincho, Ebizo performed the part of Tomikashi and Danjuro, while his father performed the part of Benkei. It has been 150 years since Danjuro and Ebizo appeared on the same stage. It is extremely rare and the audience considered this to be a very auspicious event.
At the end of the ceremony, Ryoko gave Ebizo a big wet smooch.
The ceremonial performances of succession in carrying the stage name continue throughout June at the Kabuki Theater in Tokyo, July in Osaka, September in Nagoya, October in Paris, December in Kyoto, and June 2005 in Fukuoka. (Kokiku, June 2004)
Well, actually the Ryoko thing I made up myself. :)

You've been fooled by a second, neh, bmwracer ???? :hehe: :hehe: :hehe: :hehe:
You're not kidding.... She's gotta save the big wet ones for me.
