For the ConvertX users: What size font do you use for subtitles? Beem told me that 26 is too large (I'm guessing it's different with the program he uses), but I like that font size because it's easy on the eyes. What do you guys think? By the way, I'm using the ConvertX 3 version. I used to use the 20 font for the older version, but when I used the 20 font for the latest version, it was much smaller. Weird.

I guess it depends on the font you use. I can't remember what font settings I use at home, since it's a "set and forget" thing, unless there's a problem with the subs. I checked my comp here and it's shown as Tahoma, size 18. But it's been a while since I burned a softsubbed drama at work.

I think some fonts appear larger on screen than others, even if they are the same "size".

I'm pretty sure mine is Arial, size 26. Man, I wish I sent you a drama with my softsubs. Maybe I should ask shin2 since I sent him "Around 40" with those subs. Or maybe I should ask marspeach since she has the "Suika" drama that I authored to DVD.

With the ConvertX version you have, do you get a preview of how the subtitle will look?

The version 3 one that first came out (not the recent upgrade). And you can preview it before you convert.

That preview is pretty accurate, ne? At least it is for me.

I use arial, size 22.

I don't remember how big the Suika subs looked. I'm watching something in my dvd player now. Maybe if I remember to check later.

Well that's dependent upon the resolution of the screen itself: 20-point font IS going to look bigger on a monitor at 1024x768 than one at 1600x1200.

I would think the true test would be how it looks on a TV screen... Though those resolutions are going to vary as well, once HD becomes fully standardized.

Which is why subs can be a pain :grumble: I remember Wyn-chan having mega problems with some .ass subs that had some weird font in size 40 or something

That's why I always convert any non-srt subs to srt subs: Plain text is just so much easier to handle than all that crap with the tags... :bleh:

I haven't checked out the 22-point fonts on Mop Girl yet on my TV, but I think they'll be too large and be a distraction...

I might have to redo everything in 20-point font just for myself.

That's what we're trying to determine: It differs from one person to the next.

Fansubbers?

Not sure what the professionals use... Never did a comparison.

Hopefully you get a chance to check it out because I'm curious if it's too large. Regardless, I'm happy with the way they look, but at the same time, it sucks if the subs are really wordy.

I noticed that when converting .ass subs to .srt subs, there are some weirdness going on. Like it has symbols instead of words. Why can't people just make things easier and make things available in both formats. It's not like it's that difficult, right? =T

You should try converting .smi subs to .srt :banghead:
