sorry but can you tell me where do u go to find out how fast is your computer? (my laptop is toshiba 1400-s151, windox xp home edition)
Also, can you tell me, in little works as possible if you can, what is (if their is) a diffference between filters and codecs or their just same with different name (sorry i am just a newbie)
You can find out when it boots. (Before the Windows progress bar) or in the control panel, system, in the General tab, you should be able to see it. Processor speed and amount of RAM.
I had the same problem with a standalone player with a H.264 file before. I had to reencode it to XviD with AutoGK. http://www.autogk.me.uk/
It's free and easy to use.
Damn, I missed the dvd player conversation.
Anyway I recently bought a Philips 642 to watch divx/xvid files, but I found some things wrong with it. The picture flickers when the camera moves at a fairly fast speed (for instance when the camera pans over), and the picture is cropped (not seeing the whole picture, it's cut off either on the sides or top and bottom) with some files. With the movies I download they work perfectly, but when I stick in anime or dramas they're either cropped or flickering or both. Does anyone else experience these? My friend bought a 642 on the same day, so I tried some of my shows on his dvd player and it did the same thing. Maybe it's the version we have or something. :headscratch:
Weird. You can try upgrading your firmware http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=654516#post654516
Sometimes the resolution can be weird. I'm using an Xbox to play with video on the TV and most of them doesn't fit right in the TV. There are always a few black lines. Sometimes it's formated for a computer screen and not a TV. I never had cropping problems, but for the flickers, it could be the chip being not powerful enough... :headscratch:

Thanks for the links. Yeah, I was thinking about upgrading my firmware, but I have to check what firmware I have on my dvd player first. There's a trick on the dvd player to find that out, I found it on a website somewhere. Let's see if I can find it again...
No problem. :) There's also the possibility of killing your DVD player while upgrading the firmware. Make sure it's the right one, if you don't want to have $100 paperweight / doorstop. :hehe:

I believe the player is overscanning the video to fill the TV. Depending on the resolution of the file, it is really good or too zoomed in. And there is a firmware that changes the font of the subtitles, from that unreadable small white to larger yellow ones.

Ah, I see. I know you could add borders to your video files using avisynth or something, but I'm not gonna want to do with every single file. :bleh: Yeah so I'll get a different firmware and see what happens.
computer information: 120 GH 240 MB
the video codec is DAVC (got it from right-clicking the ffdshow icon in systray while playing the file. Selected ffdshow MPEG-4 Video Decoder: Input FOURCC)
also how do u reencode it to XviD with AutoGK. (are the seperate programs that i have to download: xvid and autoGK and will it interfer/cause conflict with CCCP) please let me know any info that might help thank you very much
Your PC is probably too slow. AutoGK is a program to convert the movie in Xvid. It's basically a wrapper of many programs that are complicated to used. I don't know CCCP, but it should cause conflicts with it. The only codec it has is XviD. The rest of the programs are subs, audio and video editing softwares.
They have a tutorial here. It's very easy to use. You just select the file you want to convert, select a name for the output file, the size/quality you want your file to be and then press add job and start.
okay thanks again for the excellent helpful advice! however, before i do, someone told me in another forum that you, i can buy coreavc codec (http://coreavc.corecodec.org/download.html) and use it to see if it works or not. therefore, in your opinion will this solve this problem or not. please let me know any other info that might be useful thanks again!
