When you select the clip video, it extracts the MPEG to the directory you specify.
You'll end up with a file labeled XXXXXXXXXX.mpg
And that's what you want. :D :victory:
Anime Dad wrote:Bite the bullet and convert your mpeg2 to .avi. You could have it done by now.
A last resort, since you'll have quality degradation from the conversion.
And again when you convert back to MPEG2.
Of course, if you set your MPEG2 to DiVX/xViD to the max quality setting, the degradation would be minmal and probably undetectable... ;)

How do you like that. It works. But now I've already spent a lot of time synchronizing my subs file to the video so I will try to find a way to save what I've done. :fingerscrossed:

It's downloaded. Now paying back the bytes. 2.15GB to go then we'll be even. Probably tomorrow or the day after will be able to try to split it.

I tried using the output clip form tempgenc dvd author with virtualdub.
got the sub filter in there.
I get error: MPEG Import Filter: invalid pack at position 3; marker bit not set; possibly MPEG-2 stream.
Do you ever get that or am I just doomed to get every possible error? :shamefulcry:

I don't think the original version of virtualdub can handle mpeg-2. Try using the upgraded version http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/stable/

I'm impressed. IT WORKS..... Thank you a million times. It only took me 3 days to reach this point..... actually get virtualdub to accept MPEG2.
All I have left to do is figure out where virtualdub is putting the merged output file.... I haven't found anyplace yet where it lets me specify the output folder.....
Anime Dad wrote:I downloaded the Shinobi movie the other day. I burned it to DVD yesterday, and when I tried it in my DVD player, the audio is about 2 seconds behind the video :( The subs seem to be OK (Soft subs)
Here's what I have/used -
Original file - .avi with soft subs
Using Nero Vision Express 2 to author/burn.
Any idea what i've done wrong? Or what I could use instead of Nero Vision Express 2?
Any ideas?

Or use VirtualDubMod. :)

Audio out of sync, ne?
Hmmm.
Ever check out videohelp.com? THey've got a really useful forum... They seem to always have an answer for my video-related problems. :victory:

I always warn people to avoid using Nero Vision Express for encoding stuff to dvd or vcd because it is not an accurate tool when it comes to these things. Nero is good as a burning software, but not as an encoder.
Use the old fashioned encoding using some encoding tools like tmpgenc plus. The process could be a bit long and complicated, but it should give you the best result compared to one-click solutions like NVE.

Ah yeah, I forgot about that one :bonk:

Yeah, I only use Nero for copying/burning and that's it... Their other "tools" use useless and problem-laden.

Agreed on that. Well, except for the DVD-VCD speed test tool of Nero which I find helpful and very effective when testing some dvds if they are coasters or not.

I usually use DVDInfo for that. :)

I'll give it a try then.
OK I ended up using winavi video converter to convert my avi to DVD, then using the latest VirtualDub like ralph did above. Seems to have come out fine (audio in sync) but I haven't been able to test how the subs went yet, because I can't find where VirtualDub puts the completed file! Any ideas?

I guess i'm a bit lazy that way. I like it because it's easy to do menus and stuff. In most cases it works OK for encoding, it's just the odd problem like this that makes it annoying. But I don't mind trying other tools if they work OK.

TMPGEnc DVD Author is pretty easy to use... Not as versatile as some of the other authoring tools out there, but I just want simple menus, not all that fancy crap.
And TMPGEnc Plus is the best MPEG2 encoder I've used... A little daunting at the beginning, but after a while, those extras features are quite useful, like adjusting the video to account for TV overscan. :)
