Yay cori! You'll be amazed at the difference.

After getting sick with envy after reading about your super fast conversion, that just about convinced me to hurry up and get/build a new computer. Or maybe I should move to Australia and apply for a job where you work so I can have access to those computers too.

Sorry for the double post, but I have some dramas in VCD format and I would like to convert them to DVD. Are there any good (and preferably free) programs out there that can help me out with this?

Use TMPGEnc DVD Author.

Since the VCDs video is in MPEG-1 format, it shouldn't be a problem at all... I think TMPGEnc DVD Author will automatically accept those files... :)

What about taking the files from 2 SVCDs/VCDs and combining them to one file and then burning to a DVD?

Thanks

Have you tried it before? I'm curious to know how long it takes. And I'm sure I'll have many other questions once I do attempt to try it out. :beaten:

I tried it a while back when I had the VCDs for Seikei Bijin... :)

It's a lot quicker, since there isn't any conversion being done. :)

Thanks BMW, but the only problem is that it's shareware :(

I don't think any of us want to pay hehe

Actually, you don't need to use TMPGEnc:

If you copy the .dat file from the MPEGAV directory on the VCD to your HD, then rename it to .mpg, you've got your MPEG file for authoring... :)

Thanks again BMW!

That apparently works just fine, and am doing that right now. But do you know yet about a free program to join two mpegs?

Thank You so much!

Cool, I tried this method and it seems to be easier. One problem though--when I try to rename it to .mpg, it only changes the name, not the application.

If I rename it the way you told me, it renames it blahblahblah.mpg.dat. In otherwords, it's still a .dat file.

ETA: Ah, nevermind. I'm copying it to my external hd, so I can have my laptop change it to a .mpg file ok. I just remembered that it's just this desktop that gives me problems with stuff like that.

No.... Just use Windows File Manager to rename the file...

Does that mean that you're keeping tabs? :beaten:

And on topic: my first conversion from VCD to DVD was a success! :victory: It was totally easier than I thought it would be. I think I'll wait until later to convert the other VCDs though.

Unfortunately, the quality of the VCDs are typically a significant notch or two below that of avi and mpeg-2 video...
