Maybe I should rewatch it as well. I haven't watched it all at once.

For those who rewatched the series, did you like it more or less?

Apparently the real Noda Megumi has this habit of making up exclamations. She uses 'Gyabo' when the rest of world uses 'Oh shoot!'.

Me too.

There's some great scenes that are just fun to watch over and over again. :victory:

Yeah, it seems to be like "Yikes!" or similar.

She also uses the terms "Mukyaa...!" and "Gyaaaaa...!" a lot, too... All part of her appeal. :)

Definitely more. :victory:

I can't imagine that there was a better drama in 2006. :)

^That's good. So you should update the rating to 10/10 or something.

I watched up to ep 2 and realized that it skipped at some parts. That annoyed me to no end so I stopped watching. Something must have gone wrong when I burned it. :grumble:

I think Nodame used "Gyabo!" after she kissed Chiaki as well.

I can't.

That way over the top gay guy (and the other one as well) were irritating enough to keep the show from being perfect.

Best Dorama

Best Actor
2. Tamaki Hiroshi (Nodame Cantabile)

Best Actress
Ueno Juri (Nodame Cantabile)

Best Supporting Actor
2. Koide Keisuke (Nodame Cantabile)
3. Eita (Nodame Cantabile)

Best Music Director
Nodame Cantabile (Takeuchi Hideki)

Best Directing
Nodame Cantabile (Takeuchi Hideki cs)

Best Titleback
Nodame Cantabile (Suzuki Teppei)

The Television Special Awards
Nodame Orchestra

Hard to believe that Koide Keisuke would take second place in the Best Supporting Actor for playing a flaming gay musician.

Makes you wonder about the judges' qualifications. :beaten:

Or their preferences in sex-partners? :naughty:

you judge how well the character is played, not on how well the character is created by the original writer, or on your own sexual preferences.

Yup.

And the portrayal was a gay stereotype.

And it wasn't funny.

Gay stereotype? I don't know what is gay stereotype but I don't see any stereotype about it. He's eccentric like just about most of the main characters in there be it Nodame, Chiaki, Mine and Sakura. Masumi just happens to be gay. I think the actor did a great job portraying the character. Some of his expressions were just very well done. I thought he deserves to be 1st for supporting.

The stereotype is that gays are cross-dressing, horny, and weird.

And that's how the Okuyama Masumi character was played... Yeah, it might be consistent with the manga (I haven't read it), but that doesn't make it anymore acceptable, IMO.

Ah...you're right!! It can't be mean "oh shoot" or "yikes" in this scene ne??

I understand where you're coming from, but if you think about the characters, they're ALL stereotypes... or maybe archetypes. the evil plotting ex, the dopey genius, the rebellious young man, the cocky music critic, the eccentric conductor.

the other guy violinist in ep 10 is also gay. was he a stereotype as well? sure, he's the stereotypical soft gay you'd see in a some of the gay manga.

So what if masumi is portayed as a flamboyant? I work with someone who is exactly Masumi (sans afro) and MORE, loud work appropriate clothing, he's worn platforms and listens to disco, hell he even talks with the stereotypical lisp. Is he happy being a flamboyant gay stereotype, yeah you bet he is.

'Oh shoot!' and 'Yikes!' are just examples. Nodame uses 'Gyabo' or 'Mukya" etc. to express strong emotions - and I don't think anyone has set up grammatic rules for those words yet.
