I can understand that.
I guess I'm applying my American thinking to this drama which I shouldn't... And why I see it as stereotypical, insulting, and non-PC.
Granted, there are those who live up to that gay perception like your coworker, but I'm guessing that they're the exception and not the rule as the drama plays it out to be....

The stereotype is that gays are cross-dressing, horny, and weird.
And that's how the Okuyama Masumi character was played... Yeah, it might be consistent with the manga (I haven't read it), but that doesn't make it anymore acceptable, IMO.
Oh come on bmwracer, he cross-dressed once for the festival and he's just weird like the others. The pretty gay guy was a bit perverted but he was not even on the level with Nodame (but you didn't think too much on Nodame did you?) :hehe: It was all fun. I think you're looking a little bit too hard.

Sorry, but he was considerably weirder than the rest, IMO... And he was hornier than a dog in heat.
Nodame perverted? You must have a different definition than I have for the word... Yeah, they constantly referred to to her as "hentai," but I didn't see it... She was odd/kooky, for sure, but not hentai.
'Oh shoot!' and 'Yikes!' are just examples. Nodame uses 'Gyabo' or 'Mukya" etc. to express strong emotions - and I don't think anyone has set up grammatic rules for those words yet.
now i understand...
it's really funny how she can make up words like that... :woot:

This is the second CD-set featuring snippets of music from the manga (and therefore the drama and anime). This set include such 'gems' as Nodame's 'Farting Exercise', and Nodame's pieces in the Maradona Competition.

I doubt that most are really playing the instruments or at least playing them at the professional level... I'm sure that they got quite a bit of training just to look good, but most of it is due to very good editing... :)

the only artiste i knew that knows how to play an intruments in real life is Eita (the violin guy with a weird hair).
:)
Props to him... I thought the girl who played Kiyora (the concert master) knew how to play the violin as well.
oh you mean.. the girl___friend of Okuyama Masumi (the gay who plays the Timpani) yeah i thought so too.. she looks professional..
and also Chiaki senpai, been wondering also if HE really knows how to conduct in real life :P
but his piano skill is real i can tell.. (i studied piano lessons before)
so as Ueno Juri.. :D

Hard to tell about the conducting: I think you have to be a real conductor to know.
From reading Wikipedia, each of the the conductor's baton movements mean something... I always thought anyone who could wave their hands around could be a conductor. :beaten:

i always thought about it too..
because of Star Wars.. i want to be like John Williams also.. his conducting skills are great too.. but i found out that is not easy like we use to know how it should be.. *starts waving hands* hehe :P

OK, I'm starting to suspect if we watched the same drama. I just scanned through his scenes from my memory and don't recall what would constitute the label "horneir than a dog in heat". Maybe you can enlighten me with specific details on this matter. So he's weirder than the rest because of his 70s style clothes.
If I recall correctly there was a gentleman with slightly long curly silver hair prancing around wanting to kiss girls, touching breasts, smooching girls in his Oke and visited his harem I mean club rather often. There was something about the way he dressed too but I can't put my finger on it right now. However he didn't seem to be visible from your perspective. It could be that because he's an European (in disguise) or more importantly not gay.

No I used the word perverted in the same context as you did for Masumi (if you're talking about the Masumi competing for Chiaki's affection). I'm talking about the Nodame vying for Chiaki affection as in Nodame trying to kiss Chiaki and indeed smooched him, as in the Nodame unbuttoning his shirt, as in the Nodame who was all over him when he visited her hometown. Of course I used that word as in an affectionate tone to her. I don't think Masumi ever has done anything close to Nodame. So I'm very interested in as to how the "hornier than a dog in the heat" comes about.
I can agree with you on that point.
It is apparent that you have a certain "not so positive" inclination toward gay related materials. Is it reasonable for me to call this "phenomenon" homophobia my dear?

How can you say that I'm homophobic when I'm pointing out that the drama misrepresents gays en toto as being flaming, horny, and queer?
My entire point is that why couldn't they represent gays as just people and not freaks?
I guess I'm totally alone in seeing this oddity and everyone else doesn't see the harm in it...
So be it... I'm sorry I brought it up. :banghead:
Okay, I'll fess up. I'm forever "conducting" when I listen to music alone.
But I work with a lot of classical musicians and what I've found out is that just as musicians play their instruments, conductors "play" their orchastra. And it takes as much skill, talent, and practise to be a good conductor as it takes to be a good violinist, or pianist.

I know you haven't watched it yet, Geez, but the male lead, Chiaki, does allude to that: knowing how to play various instruments helps in being a conductor by understanding each orchestral instrument... :)

According to interviews of the cast members in the Fuji TV web site for this drama, none of them performed any of the music in the show. In fact only Ms. Ueno played the piano as a child and know something about it. All of them went through a lot of training mimicking hand and finger movements of the various instruments they 'played'.
