Those dubs for Kung-Fu movies are so bad they're good, in a corny way :victory:

I wonder how much time and money it would've set back the Nodame DVD producers to put in subtitles instead for the Europeans instead of dubbing. Maybe it's just a matter of convenience for Japanese viewers so they don't have to read too many subtitles.

Anyhow, I'm still waiting for my copy to arrive :fingerscrossed:

Yeah.. I really enjoyed the messages about how they would try to minimize the continued use of subtitles to make it easier to watch...

Guess we have it hard, eh?

And oh yeah, the dubbing for the Special was pretty rough. Especially the Fabio-style blonde judge guy.. I thought his dubbing was hilarious.

Definitely corny.

The irony of it all: here in the States, most people demand subtitles over dubs from foreign films.... ;)

Anyhow, I'm still waiting for my copy to arrive :fingerscrossed:

You must've bought it through YesAsia, ne?

Yeah, I took the YesAsia route again.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to getting the DVDs. I'm eager to see the extra scenes and the music performances that you mentioned. :victory:

Actually, I have done some voice over work in the past.... but I think my diction is a little too precise for the Nodame SP roles. I might be able to do Mine or capture the cadence of Chiaki, however

You might have had to watch the SP several times to notice the differences...

I wish I knew why they were inserted or why some of the background music was changed... :headscratch:

I hope I've watched the SP enough times by now that I'll be able to see the differences. I suppose that'll be the fun part when I view the DVD :victory:

I take it if you're wondering why, the extra scenes probably don't have any added significance to the story or characters. If the extra scenes are nothing more than an excuse to add more Nodame-chan cuteness, I'll have no problem

So have I, but I personally cannot stand live-action dub-overs. Animation isn't as bad since even the originals hardly ever match up, but I've yet to ever see a live-action dub that did anything other than butcher the true intent of the piece it's glazing over in the first place.

I'm sorry, but when did you see a live action dub of a Jdorama?

From what I saw, it was just some slight extra details to some scenes... Not really significant or particularly an excuse for Nodame cuteness.

Unfortunately.

Independant projects, really. Sadly, I don't even have them myself anymore. I've done a couple of children's stories and some narration work on a few school projects. I recorded some voices for a half-life mod project. I've never owned a good microphone, so the stuff is usually pretty flat. I've done quite a bit of informal MCing work when they need someone.

Many people say I sound a lot like Seth MacFarlane (Brian on Family Guy is his natural voice), but I think my voice has more of a Gary Cole (Harvey Birdman, no less) timbre.

Basically, it's something I want to get back into in the future and hopefully do a lot more of. I have exceptional diction and take an almost silly amount of pride in pronouncing things consistently and clearly. I think some people think it makes me sound overly formal and arrogant, but I maintain it's just good habit and pride.

Sorry if that sounded like a commercial. I'm really just a beginner, but would love to do more some day soon.

Hmmm...let me think here...*glances to the title of the thread* Well, I can think of at least one that I'm sure even you have seen. :P

Anyways, it's not just JDorama, but ANY live-action film that I was talking about. It always takes something away from the original interpretation when you've got a secondary actor speaking over the original performance.

Not only are there added scenes throughout the two lessons, but it the background music has changed in several places as well... This only occurred in one place in the original series (as noted by thtl), but it seems more rampant in the SP... :headscratch:

Actually the there were changes in the music in nearly every episode in the NC DVD-set, I just happened to quote the change in episode one as an example.

Here's another:

In episode 6 Saiko was listening to Chiaki and Nodame's conversation in Chiaki's bedroom. In the TV broadcast the music used when Saiko left scratch marks on the door was Dvorak's Cello Concerto. In the DVD set this piece of music was replaced by something I did not recognize.

I have a feeling that they were trying to include as much scenes from the manga as possible, probably under 'suggestions' from Ninomiya-sensei. To conform to the usual TV program length they just cut down scenes not affecting the flow of the story.

PMFJI. All JDoramas were Cantonese-dubbbed when they were shown in Hong Kong, starting way back in the 70s'. I've seen a couple of episodes of Nodame, 14 Sai no Haha, Kiken na Aneki and, most recently, Oniyome Nikki where the character were babbling in Cantonese, my mother tongue.

The general use of language - idioms, intonations etc. are so different that I always switch back to the Japanese version.

Best drama ever.......

This is random but has anyone else watched Liar Game? The castle that Sakura-chan's father owns seems to be the same exact one from Liar Game. I just noticed it after watching that episode for the second time. Lol.

Wow.

Didn't know that... Any reason for all that?

Maybe just to differentiate it from the broadcast version?
