Damn, I downloaded Nodame Cantabile SP and found out that I downloaded the same file ( Part 2 of the SP ) One subbed, and the other RAW. What the hell was I thinking? Must've been sleepy when clicking the Download button, and yes I haven't watched the SP yet (><)! Eagerly waiting for my summer vacation 'cause I never got the chance to be free :grumble: !!

Better to download it now... There might not be any seeds/peers later.

Wow.

Didn't know that... Any reason for all that?

Maybe just to differentiate it from the broadcast version?

It could very well simply be licensing issues requiring them to change the music for distribution purposes. I can think of PLENTY of shows out there that are forced to do this for things as simple as theme songs!

I gotcha... But this is classical music, not stuff expressly written for Nodame...

Maybe the licensing of the individual recordings? They did most of them with a designated group, didn't they?

The Nodame Orchestra, I believe.

Odd that the rules are different for broadcast and distribution... Comes down to dollars and cents, I suppose.

Always seems to, sadly.

Or maybe the director saw that release as an opportunity to take it a slightly different direction? Let's think positively :)

This isn't Blade Runner or Apocalypse Now... :beaten:

Nodame Cantabile: The Director's Cut. :hehe:

It's less the piece itself and more the group that performed it, where they modified it to their own style. If Band X does a cover of Band Y, while they would pay royalties for using the song, they can still make money if someone else does a cover of their cover (weird, eh?).

Removing Band Y out of the equation (in this case, public domain songs) doesn't mean that Band X still cannot charge for their performance. In this case, FujiTV and the Nodame Orchestra couldn't come to an agreement to pay for the distribution rights, therefore music change.

That..or it could have just been a timing error in the original edit, or there was small additions to the scenes in question that made the mood different.

The musical pieces in Nodame were performed mostly by two orchestras - the Nodame Orchestra and the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra. I think these two groups only performed the pieces 'performed' by the characters in drama, the background pieces such as Sabre Dance were probably from off-the-shelf recordings.

Sony Music was a sponsor of this drama and probably earned more than they expected from all those CD-set, especially the earlier one which were stock (existing) recordings not performed by the afroe-mentioned two groups. Incidentally Sony Music set up the Nodame Orchestra, so I think they own the right to all recordings made by the Nodame Orchestra.

I think Beemer was right in saying that this could be a licensing issue. Maybe not all the background pieces were chosen from Sony Music's stock, making it impossible for FujiTV to use these pieces for reselling (the DVD-set).

Yeah, I'm sure the background music was all off the shelf. And nothing against the Nodame Orchestra, but many of those pieces were of much higher quality.

Actually, Tenshigure said it... And he was spot-on. :victory:

It's rather difficult to compare a bunch of young musicians under the direction of a non-professional conductor to the likes of the Berliner Philharmonic or the Chicago Symphony Orchestras.

I think for us classical novices, the Nodame Orchestra did a fine job. :victory:

Of course! As I said.. nothing against them - it's an amazing world - those top philharmonics often only see the piece 1 or 2 days before they perform it, too..

Whaha, victory points for me! :victory: :hehe:

Agreed on the music as well though. Though I haven't seen the DVD versions to compare, there is certainly a huge difference in the styles of the show (primarily the Nodame Orchestra with help by Tokyo Metro Orchestra) versus the SP itself (additional help by the New York Philharmonic).

*sigh* I'm gonna have to get back into the classical stuff again, merely talking about it brings back old memories of high school.
