Haha.. come on, in real life Nodame would be a horrible person to be with. Cute as can be, but so far outside Chiaki's rigid social framework (and probably most of ours too)

So much of Japanese media that I've experienced has those one or two characters which would never work in the real world, but are at least marginally acceptable within the framework of the show.

And besides.. good 'ol Chiaki does warm up to little miss Noda.

I'd have to agree with that. As super duper cute as she can be, her mannerisms, not to mention her lack of cleaning, might be a little too much to handle. I'd like to be with Ueno Juri, but probably not Nodame :sweat:

Haha, well her cleaning habits and mine are miles apart. While not a neat-freak, I do like to keep my place tidy. She can be as cute as a kid, but when she's already 21 (or 22 for the Special) that would probably come off as too childish for some.

okay.. seriously, if she does stunts like this all the time, I think I could make a pretty broad exception :)

Yeah, it's just that in reality, she's extremely childish - maybe like a 14-16 year old in some ways and even younger in others! It's immensely charming as a drama character, but it would be really odd in person. Certainly she's a gifted musician and she's a hard worker.. but she doesn't have the understanding and maturity which goes with being an accomplished musician (notice how everyone else around her seems to know more about the music they're playing). She's kind of an enigmatic character - more symbols and plot tools than actually human.

However, I think she could easily hold on to her mannerisms and that'd be fine with me. I myself often burst in to fits of unrelated expository because the mood strikes me, regardless of who is standing around or where I may be - I'll use deeply inside references to make comments to complete strangers and then have a little chuckle.

Further, if they get the references, I get a lot more interested in them!
