Lol, a terabyte, that'll be a nightmare to backup. I'm already getting lazy to sort and burn data from my 300GB HDD . Hopefuly the blue ray discs will be available soon.

Man, that thing must take a day just to format...

I saw a 1TB at Frys for like 750....

a bitch to format.. wait.. do you really have to format an HD first before to use it? UPS says I should be getting my 500gb tomorrow..

Only if you want it to work. :beaten:

doing a quick format on my G4 took less than 5 minutes on my 200gb seagate...

it's not like you do a low level format the first time... right?

I know that when setting up a new system, the format takes decades... Adding a new HD to an existing system takes less time if I recall.

It's been a while.

i think Winblowz does a zero-data format for the install if it isn't already formatted. I've only done it twice.

Well, I used my HD straight out of the box the last time and it's been working fine. So I kinda figured, it was already formatted before I recieved it.

which brings me to the confusion of whether to format the external hd that i just ordered.

It's always safer to format before usage :victory:

you shouldn't need to, most drives are M$ formatted.

I am getting mixed reactions here. so.. I shouldn't reformat it... Right?

BAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

hey.. seriously.. how is it?? me scared.. 500gb is big enough for me to screw up...

i have another question too. why do you need back upping when you are using the HD as THE back up?

Simple answer: It's optional.

You want redundancy with all of your important data.

If your HD or some other semi-volatile storage device tanks, what do you do?

i hate the fact that i still have to burn shit on a cd. one of the reasons why i purchase a ginormous storage space like the 500gb hd is to avoid burning cds... adversely affecting the death of many kitties around the world, because apparently, when you burn a cd, a kitten is killed.. by domo-kun at least..

Use DVDs instead...

1 DVD ~ 6 CDs... That'll cut down the burning by quite a bit.
