I think that's the wrong assumption.
They probably use a fixed quality/compression when they create their files and not necessarily to fit all on one disc...
Madoka wrote:It would suck that they are 0.22% too large to fit on a DVD+R....

Yeah, but that's life. :beaten:
I had the same feelings when I tried to archive the raws for Shika Otoko Aoniyoshi... If it were only ten episodes, it would fit nicely on a single-layer DVD-R, but it's 11 episodes, so I have to archive some other drama or movie(s) with the last episode... Oh well.
krim wrote:I put all my archives in a dual sided plastic sleeve, so i've been burning the excess on a single CD-R.. in stead of using 2 DVD-R's like i used to do.
cori wrote:Someone sent me dramas on DVD+ RW discs and I'm not sure if the data will be secure on those discs as opposed to regular DVD-R discs. After I copied the info onto a DVD-R disc, I tried deleting the RW disc, but it's unable to do so. I'm guessing that the data will not erase, but I'm not sure about the status of the disc years from now. Does anyone have any info on this?
Also, with these DVD+RW discs, I'm not able to view some of them on my regular DVD player, but I am able to view them on a DVD recorder. I wonder if it's the old player's fault or the discs. After I copied the drama to a DVD-R disc, it was able to play perfectly with my player, so I"m wondering if I have to copy them all to DVD-R discs.
bmwracer wrote:You just can't delete files from a DVDRW as if it were a floppy disc unless you're running your DVD drive as a virtual disc... You need software to enable you to do that.
You can erase the entire disc using Nero or whatever burning program you typically use.
Older players might not be able to read DVDRW discs... Check the manual of your player (what a novel idea...!).
Most modern standalone players can pretty much read all the various disc types...
cori wrote:I tried deleting them with my DVD recorder, which usually can delete stuff off of DVDRW discs. I guess I'll try Nero next, but it takes a half hour per disc with my computer.
Well, the thing is, my old player can read some discs, but not all of them, so I have no idea what's going on. I'll probably reburn the discs anyway because I'm not sure if RW discs are safe to have info in the long run (Can someone confirm this??)
bmwracer wrote:Are you talking about deleting or erasing?
It shouldn't take a half-hour to erase a DVDRW... Only a minute or two.
The problem is that it is an old player: it probably needs to have the laser recalibrated.
You should be using the DVDRW discs just to test your authoring and burns, not for archiving... Or doing backups.
