Big problem is, everyone seems to accept the way things are... Sure, there's griping/grousing between peons, but management is completely oblivious.

I'm the only one that seems to say anything to management, so I'm the boat-rocker/agitator/complainer... :bleh:

So it appears you're the only one that has problems, and everyone else keeps it inside. Haven't they heard of "Serenity Now, Insanity Later?" Thank goodness we have a least two cynics in our team to question the norms.

That's a perfect summation.

Haven't they heard of "Serenity Now, Insanity Later?"

Most (all?) of the peons are from another country and the mind set is that you don't question authority... And I think The Queen takes full advantage of that...

The words "abuse" and "indentured" come to mind.

That's a rough situation to be in, for all involved.

More so for the few who really want out. The others are just drones.

I hope they don't think that's how things operate here.

They probably do: most of those people have been there 10+ years.

And they're rewarded with no raises and more work.

How generous. :bleh:

Yow, there would be so much grumbling, the CEO would have to step in. No raises even to account for inflation? That's outrageous.

No raises, just excuses.

Isn't that against labor laws? :headscratch: Don't tell me they hide behind the "didn't make enough profit" excuse?

Not that I know of.

Don't tell me they hide behind the "didn't make enough profit" excuse?

It's practically the company's credo.

To be fair, the week sucked, so I'm griping more than usual. It's just that the panic that's currently happening this week and beyond didn't have to happen if the so-called managers did their job: manage.

Now we've got orders that are late and unhappy customers... So what happens? Turn on the red siren and start the Chinese fire drill....

That's terrible. It sounds like morale means nothing to them.

You need not go any further. I have an idea.

The word isn't even in their management dictionary.

Like I said, they're oblivious: no complaints? Everyone must be happy...! :shakehead:

I don't think so.

I know that companies can stop raises after so many years of service.
Vuitton does it and I don't remember reading about it in the employee handbook.
And it's not like Vuitton can use the "didn't make enough profit" either.

I don't know the legalities of this issue, however.

Any law students/assistants/lawyers out there? :beaten:

After thinking about it for a while, I'm guessing that if you're part of a union or similar, then you might get cost of living increases and the like... That's the clout a union has. And maybe one of its few positives.

And engineers do not have a union. Incidentally, when I was a TA at the university, I was under the United Auto Workers union. Go figure.

Yup, never understood that one. It's almost like they said, "You know, we teaching assistants really need to unionize. Johnson, go find one in the phone book..... The only one I found, sir, was the UAW... The UAW? Perfect." :shakehead:

when i was under a union contract, i got raises every year, but they withheld raises from those who performed poorly (but even those people could file a grievance). when i was a 'salary-man', i also got raises every year, but i don't think those were guaranteed at all. if the boss didn't give you a raise, i thought the only thing you could do was quit.

but is there actually a labor law that requires raises?
