lol

Well, I'm converting Dream Again, and all episodes convert fine, except the first two.

I'm not sure were the problem is, since it's only the two on the disc. The converting begins, and then I get a vague error. I've tried replacing the original files, and I've tried changing the file names.

I've tried converting off a disc and off a memory key.

Right now I'm re-downloading.

Did you copy the files from the disc to your PC?

What's the vague error?

Does the file on the disc playback correctly? It might be corrupted.

If you can spare the dough (fifty bucks I think), I highly recommend upgrading to version 3 of convertx. It's a lot better.

It never reaches the burning stage. It converts about a few minutes in and than stops.

I'm not sure what the error is, because I get a windows error on top to "report" the error, and when I click on either send or cancel, the whole application closes down.

@Marspeach: I think I will, tho I have to admit, I actually like the menu with the old version. The animations with the new are annoying...

Sounds like a problem with the first video file.

Oh, I meant does the original file playback correctly... If that's corrupted, then the conversion will crap out.

Can you copy the original files to your PC before conversion, rather than having the program grab the files from the disc?

I've tried this as well.

And the playback is fine.

cori's had this same problem in the past... Don't know why ConvertX does this. :headscratch:

Guess you'll have to wait for the download to complete and try again.

Since A-Dad and cori use this program, maybe they could try converting the very same episode and see what happens....

I'm downloading a hardsubbed version of the first two eps. This way, if the problem continues, I'll just use the fancy programs on the mac to make the DVD. :fingerscrossed:

I'm not sure how much info you can extract from those raws, but there must be something different about the video and/or audio encoding of those two episodes that's giving ConvertX problems...

I'm trying to open my avi in VirtualDub, but I get a message

"Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'Xvid' (unknown)

VirtualDub requires a Video For Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player are not suitable."

So I searched online for Video For Windows Codec, and got this -
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/ffvfw.htm

But I don't know what to do next, as the error continues and I'm lost.

I am trying this on my PC which has Windows XP Home Edition.
(And VirtualDub 1.8.8).

You need the XviD codec... You can get it from here: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/XviD_Codec :)

You should bookmark the videohelp.com site: it's got lots of useful software and guides.... And a forum as well. :victory:

*screams* Beem! Thank you thank you! You were of course completely right - I got that codec you linked, and - I can hardly believe I'm typing this - I've actually managed to hardsub Summer Time Machine Blues!!!!!

I followed a guide online, and even though I felt I was blundering my way through, the film seems to have come out just as I'd hoped - with nice big subtitles, that seem to be in time. (The one thing stopping me before was just needing the Xvid codec).
I took a chance and didn't mess with subtitles font or sizing, but they are perfect for me anyway.

And...now I'm going to go and bookmark Videohelp.com.
:D
And I'll hopefully be watching the film now it's on my PS3 at the weekend. :victory:

Thank you again.

Yay! :woot:

Enjoy the movie... :victory:

And better yet: you now know the basic procedure for hardsubbing. :applaud: :applaud: :applaud:

You like the menu from the old version? But the new one is so much better!

Are you converting with .ass subs? That could be it. If that's the problem, make sure you convert to .srt.

Thank you guys!
And today, I even used HJSplit to put together parts of a drama, and it worked. Man, I feel so technical and brainy today. :hehe:

Nah. I feel like they're trying too hard to be fancy. I already have a program that does fancy menu animations. I believe I used it for 200 Pound Beauty that I converted for Eve.

I am, but that's never been a problem. All the other episodes worked fine. It was just the first two.

UPDATE: I re-downloaded hardsubbed versions of the first two epi's, and the conversation worked fine. No errors whatsoever. This is so weird. With all the troubleshooting I did, I have no idea what the problem was.

Conversation?

Maybe that was the problem? :beaten:

Can you run a compare of the previous raw file versus the new one?

There must be something different about them... Or was it user error?

You can also join .avi files using VirtualDub as well. :victory:
