Any luck with that episode? :headscratch:

Running DVD Shrink on Eight-Diagram Pole Fighter... :victory:

Ok. I'm confused.
I have Mop Girl on my computer. 10 AVI files with hard subs. They seems to be about 370 mb or so each.
I want to put the series onto dvd, so I can get it off my computer, and have discs I can copy.
Anyway, tried to burn it using Nero. But even clicking to put one episode on a disc tells me it's over 1 gb!!! I think Nero said it would be 1.76, out of the 4.38 disc capacity. How can this be? I know the file is 360 mb. So at most, Nero is saying I can put about 3 episodes on a disc. This isn't right, is it?

Yes, that's sort of right, when they are converted to dvd format they get bigger, you can usually get 3 or 4 eps to a DVD without compromising quality too much. (other programs are more flexible about what you can do with quality, unlike Nero)

That won't happen if you are burning data discs.

That's right, but i'm sure keps-chan is trying to author them to DVD, not just make data discs :P

Thank you AD. I was convinced Nero was acting weird on me. And even my boyfriend (much more tech-minded than me) thought it wasn't right either. You can tell we don't often burn discs. :beaten:

I was wanting dvds, as I hope to copy them (make dvds) for folk. :D

I use ConvertXtoDVD, which works fine for most things. I settled on that because it handles external sub files quite well, and it's simple (especially the older versions). There's better programs and ways of doing it out there, but they are either more complex, or expensive, or require more steps to get what you want.

I think Nero is about as much as I can handle for now. I'm hoping to learn more about making discs as I go along, as I hope to be making more in the future.
I'll probably seriously look at other programs when I think I have at least some idea what I'm doing, lol. :D
Thank you for the information. :victory:

^ I never put much stock into all-in-one programs because they tend to have shortcomings or are limiting in some fashion...

That said, I'd pick ConvertX over Nero in a heartbeat... I only use Nero to burn discs, period... The other stuff that's bundled with Nero is buggy. :bleh:

I thnk for keps it would be ideal, though, as she admits she's not really technically-minded

I decided just to make data discs for now. Then if I want, I can make dvds later. :D

Me again.
The data discs worked out fine. :victory:

But new project: I have an AVI of Summer Time Machine Blues, and an srt subtitle file for it.
The film plays fine (with subtitles) on WMP.
But - I want hard subs, so I can watch on my PS3.

I'm trying to use that submux thingy. I drag and drop the two files into it (they are called exactly the same, with their extensions). What I get out is a file of 300-something kb. When the film itself is aboout 700 mb.
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Submux thingy?

To hardsub, I use Virtualdub + Vobsub... :victory:

(No, beem, I did not bump this topic up for a problem I'm having. :hehe:)

Keps: Try downloading ConvertX as AD recommended. It's the easiest program to convert files to watchable DVDs. As he mentioned, it deals with softsubs and converts them to hardsubs for you without any additional headache or having to deal with multiple programs. The menus are the only thing that you have to worry about--if you don't get it to be exactly the way you want the first time, you have to redo everything.

ETA: Oh wait, you just wanted to make data discs. Ok, scratch what I said. :bonk:

It was the mux thing that comes with VoBSub I was using. I actually tried to run VirtualDub on my laptop earlier, but got a dialog box saying "Ooops" (it really did say that), and that it couldn't run. I don't know why.
I'll try again though. Thank you. :victory:

Lol Cori, I appreciate your trying to help.

^ If you're using Virtualdub and Vobsub, you need to choose the Textsub Filter (for .srt files), then choose a compression encoder (DivX or XviD)... :)

Nice tutorial... As long as you turn off the irritating background music. :beaten:
