I wish everyone who did subs was so thoughtful. I have quite a few files that lose text at the edge of the TV screen once I burn them to DVD :(

Fansub groups don't put borders on the sides because most people watch dramas/movies/animes in their PC monitor. As you can see, LCD monitors don't encounter this problem because all pixels are in fixed positions, and CRT monitors are already purposely underscanned. If the fansub groups are to put borders on the sides of the video files then the borders will be seen in PC monitors, which will be inconvenient for the majority who watch their videos in their PC.

I feel that the size of the drama downloaded from d addicts are very huge. 800mb ? i can't burn them into 1 dvd. is there any way to reduce the size ?

Are you trying to burn them as data disc? You could re-encode them in Virtualdub and use Xvid as your compression. It could reduce each videos up to 10%, and could reduce more depending on the settings of your target quantizer. But it is ill-advised since you will really lose the quality of your videos. So if you still want to keep the quality of your videos then you have no other choice but to burn an 800MB per episode drama in 2 dvds. :bonk:

Oh by the way, we have a thread concerning videos and stuff http://jdorama.com/viewtopic.5900.htm

What I mean is making another copy of the video file, but the new copy have some changes in it like file size, hard subs, and stuff like that depending on the changes that you made to it.

Well, almost all the video files that you download from d-addicts are using Xvid as codecs, so it's not really a conversion but more like you are gonna use Xvid, again, as a compressor thru Virtualdub.

You can experiment with different bitrates and other options (like 2-pass encoding), doramas are around 40-50min and imo 800MB are too much. Take Japan-tv releases for example, they are around 350MB and yet with good quality.

That's why I prefer to author the dramas myself so I can do those little things like correcting for overscan... "Cause I always watch my dramas on the TV, not my PC. :)

Yeah, and also, it's actually easier to add borders on the sides of video files than removing them, for FitCD is not gonna do the calculations for you to crop the borders on the sides (though it can crop letterbox), so you'll have to do the calculations for cropping it manually. Another disadvantage of removing borders is that there is a risk of losing a lot of the video (left and right) since the aspect ratio will be altered
