Try clonedvd2. It does all the calculating for you. It will shrink anything to a single DVD size. I've never had any audio quality loss although my sensitive eyes are not happy when a Kuraki Mai concert is shrunk to where the lights get a little squarish. :bleh:

So will DVD Shrink... Maybe user error?

Can't you increase the compression to make it fit?

I have increased the compression, but it won't go below 51%

:bonk: yes maybe, I'll try again tonight :bonk:

Good luck....

Won't go below 51%... Maybe there's a setting you need to change....

I guess going below 50-51% would start to really affect image quality... But I thought it would let you do it if you so desired... :headscratch:

can you make a screenshot of your dvdshrink:
-main movie expanded (so it shows) audiostreams highlighted?

Started watching My Little Chef. The (hard) subs are slightly cut off by the bottom of the TV screen. What can I do to shrink the picture to bring the subs above the TV bottom mask. On the computer the subs are perfectly visible. :grumble:

TV overscan problem.

Try another TV... Not much you can do with a hardsubbed video other than re-encode/re-frame the video... That'll take some time.

I was afraid of that. I already tried every trick I could come up with with reencoding with various devices. I wish the hardsubbers would raise the subs from the very bottom of the screen to allow for most TVs overscans.

TMPGEnc can do it.

Usually the text is within the video image... They must not have set up the subtitle margins correctly.

I'll look at it. I know it can crop. I did not know it can shrink the screen.

Anybody know why burned DVD's sometimes skip/freeze in certain parts? Is it dodgy discs, poor encoding or something else?

It's happened a few times now, and it's VERY annoying.

I think it's the second tab under "Advanced."

You change the setting from "fit to screen (keep aspect ratio)" to "center screen (custom size)" then you enter in your new aspect ratio numbers... You'll probably need to use FitCD to determine the correct aspect ratio.

Be forwarned: if you use that feature, when you display the video on a widescreen (16x9) TV, you'll have black bars framing the entire video image...

I'm getting some DVDs from someone and they mention that it only plays on PCs, and Philips DVD players. I was wondering if someone knows of a good (but cheap) player.

That happens to me in certain DVD players, but I have one that plays those kinds of discs perfectly. I don't remember the brand, but I could check it when I get home.

Edit: I think I misunderstood your problem, but I just thought I'd post anyway. :p

Have you tried the discs on another player?

Some players are very finnicky about disc media.

No probs, I think it may be the discs I use. (not the ones I sent you, though: they are Sony discs :) )

I have 3 players: it happens on 2 of them (the extra-=cheap Coby and the expensive Onkyo) and the third one has trouble recognising ANY disc, so I don't count that one :)

Try extracting the data from those dodgy discs on your PC... If you have trouble, it's the discs...

Sou desu. I'll try that.

Luckily I have the original files still
