You can download dvd info. Put a blank in the drive and click it should tell you what kind of burn speeds it supports.

I'm not sure what kind of burner I have either, but when I have the time, I'll check out that download that you mentioned. THanks!

It's such a good feeling to know I'm able to author my own DVDs. I wish I had stuck with it earlier because it's kind of fun. But I'll probably get bored of it in a week. :P

Short attention span, ne? :hehe:

I just set it up and let it do it's thing overnight :) Then I don't have to worry about it finishing.

VERY short attention span. :P

And I realize that the converting procedure takes about 3 1/2 hours to 4, so I don't really want to let it stay on over night. I figure as soon as I come home from work or later on in the night, I'll start it up and I can do one disc a night, which isn't so bad. :)

And yay! The Nemureru Mori series is complete. :victory:

You shouldn't feel odd about leaving your PC on overnight... I do it all the time when I run multiple encoding jobs... :)

I don't think I've ever posted in this thread before (mainly because i use a mac and therefore there's little help here for me) but last night I converted my first .avi file to a DVD format for Eve!

I can now burn in DVD format. Mind you, I can only do it for hardsubbed stuff. I still have to work on the soft-subbed stuff.

What program did you use?

Must've been a dedicated Mac proggy, ne?

Do you have a desktop PC or similar available?

I used iMovie and iDVD (mac proggys to the core lol). The good thing about them is that I can do while things with the menus.

I DO have a desktop PC! Well, it's my sister's, and it's on that that I do all my downloading, so it's available for me to use.

Like I mentioned to cori: VirtualDub and VobSub are the programs you need...

You can get them and other info/help/tools/etc. from VideoHelp.com: http://www.videohelp.com/

Question for the tech savvy:

I have recently burned a couple of DVD-Rs (Taiyo Yuden) on my Sony burner and the disc looks fine after the process is complete but the disc will not playback on said burner....but i know the burn was successful because i played those discs in my standalone dvd player that can read .avi files. what do you think?

Okay! Next time I'm on the PC (hopefully tomorrow) I'll look into those! I don't need to convert stuff for myself, but I know I'm inconvienincing those I trade with. :puppydog: So I want to learn for them.

Weird...

Can you see/copy the files from the DVD to the hard drive or is the disc unreadable on the PC?

unreadable....

Probably a rootkit. Tons of copy protection mechanism are known to install them. (DVDs, games, music CDs...) It's some kind of hardware wrapper that prevents you from copying the content. I don't know why it prevents the avi tho. Unless your burner is dying.

You can download RootkitRevealer to see if that's the case. It's free.

That's bizarre.

What was the content of the material you copied? A movie? A drama?

Just a drama....i've burned hundreds of disc like this before without any problem. that's what struck me...you could burn the disc but not play it.
