Aside from the program itself, you might invest some money in some CD-RW discs (I use TDK) for test burns to verify that the discs are playable... If the burn or the authoring is bad, you can always erase the disc. :)

Cuts down on the coasters immensely. :victory:
I think I already have some CD-RW discs, so I'll try doing that. Thanks for the tip. :D

I've had a few instances of the original file not converting properly, even though it plays ok on the comp.
DVD authoring can be frustrating, as you're now learning :banghead:
if your program allows, save it as an ISO or Disc Image and see if it'll play on your computer. if it does, then burn the image file to the DVD-ROM at no mor than 1/2 the max rated speed for the disc.
if that doesn't work, then try another program, or go buy some DVD-RWs

The authoring isn't frustrating, it's the hardsubbing and conversion, especially if the subs are crappy and/or in the wrong format... Very time consuming.
Once that's nailed down the encoding and authoring is pretty straightforward... At least from my experience. :)

Sou desu. I try and do it all in one process, to save time. Unlike you, I have only 1 computer, and limited access to it, so I try and do it all quickly.
I'll have to say, weith the exception of customising menus, ConvertXtoDVD does everything I ask of it.

True true, you do have intangibles to deal with...
(time to get that Centrino-powered lappy :beaten: )
There's always the media center option. You can buy an old xbox for less than $100 and mod it. It can display subs and works flawlessly with Xvid/DivX, mpg, mkv... It supports H264, but the CPU is too slow to decompress it. You can play the files from DVD, hard drive or network share.
I've heard the 360 can play h264 too, but I never tried it.

Dang... my son had an XBox. Sold it for $200 with a couple of games
for editing i mean.. this one takes forever. I swear once i saw the progress bar move backwards while i was converting something. and I can't plya most of the h264 stuff, without stuttering or heavy artifacting.
