So you guys use a program to hardsub the softs yourself and then you burn? Ohhhhhhhh I see.

I thought there was a program that would do that for you and then burn. :headscratch:

Right now I'm trying Nero to burn Cupid for Cori, which is hardsubbed. I'm still not gonna touch the soft subs yet until I figure out how to burn to DVD period... which I think I'll accomplish after I try the disk I'm burning. I have to wait one hour. :grumble:

I haven't used this yet (I've ripped TV shows so far), but you just need to remember to select the language. I don't know what the subs look like on the converted videos.

Hrm... Handbrake sounds very useful.

May put together a new Quad-Core PC after Christmas, that'll be able to do conversions pretty quick. Not that my Opteron 170 is a slowpoke.

There are. I find it easier to add the subs as normal DVD subs track. You can show / hide them if you want too.

ffmepegX will hardsub almost any file format using a sub file and create a DVD folder that you can burn.

If you're trying to create DVD-Video (for use in all standalone DVD players), you also have to encode the hardsubbed AVI file to MPEG2 using a program like TMPGEnc (what I use), then author (create menus, chapters, etc.) using another program like TMPGEnc DVD Author (what I use)... Then you can burn your DVD. :)

It's a bit convoluted, but I get consistent, error-free results. :)

Okies, I've downloaded this program, since it's a Mac app. >>plays with it<<

Gomen.

Geek-speak.

Basically, you might have to do some more processing before creating a DVD that you can use on a standalone player.

Does your room have the room?

Or get a PC laptop.

LOL! No worries, I was just joking. I can be savvy when it comes to learning programs and stuff. I mean, I DO teach on computers for two of my three courses. :good:

I've used handbrake and it worked fine. I had converted a VCR tape to DVD on my Panasonic DVD player/recorder... then I needed to convert the DVD to AVI to incorporate with an avi movie to put up on youtube.

http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Catalog(1209)-SanDisk_VMate_Video_Memory_Card_Recorder.aspx

The box arrived today, but with 2 units inside! I checked, and i've only been charged for 1. :bonk:

How long does the encoding of one episode take?

Apparently so. I haven't used it yet. It's going to be for my birthday, which isn't for another 5 weeks. :banghead: I got it mainly as a quick way to transfer our home movies from VCR to PC format, since I don't have a PC anywhere near the TV/VCR.

Wynter wrote:How long does the encoding of one episode take?

It's probably CPU-dependent.

In the PC world, it takes about one hour to convert a single 45 minute episode from AVI to MPEG2... Then you have to author the DVD.
