I have a question for those of you who do encoding: do you backup the avi files as well? I'm just wondering because that would be a wouldn't that be a waste of discs if you already have the dramas in a regular DVD format?

Yeah I do, because I could lose or damage a DVD :puppydog: Which I have done already.

I have about 9 spindles of 50 discs of backed up stuff

Same here.

You always should have a copy of your originals/raws, just in case. :)

I guess I'll buy some other blanks because I don't want to waste my precious Verbatim discs on backups. Thanks for the replies, AD & beem! :)

I back up on external harddrives. So like, right now I have a TB (soon I'll have two), a 250 GB, and a 350 (or something like that) full of dramas. All are burned on discs as well. :)

Actually you'd want your backups to be on the precious Verbatims since their data retention quality is among the best out there. :)

I only have one external HD (500 GB) and I'm just paranoid that my files will disappear or the HD will die on me so I'm going to start on backing them up.

Does anyone suggest any specific brands for backups?

Maxell aren't bad. You can use a software like md5summer, to make sure the file is backed up perfectly.

Yeah, but they're too precious (and sort of expensive) to use as backups. (Damn, I knew I should've bought more of those discs when they had that supersale going on.) I'd prefer to use them for making copies of dramas not for backing things up. Maybe I should wait to see if there are any sales on blank DVDs at Office Max this Sunday before deciding.

Office Max discs?

Hmm.

You might try the Ritek 8X or ProDisc 8X DVD-Rs from Supermediastore... Geez and I have used those with good results. :)

Also, if you buy larger quantities, you'll save more per disc... I rmember Eltinator saying he bought discs from Supermediastore in spindles of 500...:beaten:

Wow... spindles of 500! Probably multiples of 50 or 100, i'm guessing :)

My sister accidently ejected the drama disc when I was converting using ConvertX and I got an error message. But when I re-inserted the disc, the conversion picked up from where it started.

Will this cause a problem later?

YATTA!!!!!!

I successfully converted .avi files with soft subs to a DVD with chooseable subs!!!! :woot:

I'm surprised it all fit on one disc tho... tho mind you, each episode for Cupid is only 23 minutes.

I'm guessing that program will try to fit in as much as you give it... Better check the video/audio quality: it might be significantly degraded.

I hope they improved QC, my 16x Verbatims are all garbage now, even though I burned them at 8x. The first few discs that i first burned at 16x were corrupted immediately, one got stuck in my panasonic dvd player.

I stick to the Taiyo's and TDK print-ons. All of those are still fine.
