There shouldn't be: once it's hardsubbed, the subs are part of the video, so you can/should be able to treat it just like a non-subbed video...

At least in theory...

You might have to check the Help in ConvertXtoDVD.

I'll ask shin2 what he wants me to do because I'm recording that for him. But thanks for the offer because I'd love to get a copy for myself. :)

Okie dokie. :victory:

I found out that I had it labeled as something else, which was why I couldn't find it. I'm such a dork. :bonk:

But when I checked out the copy that I burned, the freaking subs are so tiny!!! I guess I took it for granted that the subs will turn out to be the regular non-microscopic size like hardsubs. Great. 3 hours down the damn drain. :grumble: Also, there was one section that had a glitch/pause. Maybe I should just attempt to hardsub the stupid thing myself to make it easier. :grumble:

Or hopefully AD or someone can help me out with what the problem is.

By the way beem, what is that hardsub program again? And is it easy to use for idiots?

VirtualDub and VobSub.

Pretty easy... I can walk you through if necessary. :)

So you need 2 programs to create hardsubbed episodes? This sounds like a time-consuming process. Do those programs need a lot of RAM? I'm just wondering because my desktop only has 128RAM.

The two programs work together: one does the hardsubbing, the other is the subtitle interface.

Simply put:
1. Start VirtualDub and open the video file.
2. Select your subtitle file, pick your font, font size, font color, etc.
3. Choose the output type and quality (DivX, xVid, etc.)
4. Run the program... About 1 to 1-1/2 hours per episode.
5. Voila! A harsubbed drama :)

128MB?? Running Windows XP?

Itai.

So 1 to 1 1/2 hours for one spisode (my slow computer will probably take double the time :grumble: ), plus the time it takes to author it to DVD? Yikes, too time-consuming for my liking, especially since I really need to concentrate on updating my site too.

Now if I had 3 computers, one having at least 1gb of RAM, then I wouldn't sweat it, but for now, I think I should just stick to the Convertxtodvd program simply because it takes less time.

Thanks for taking the time to help me beem and I apologize for not taking your advice. :(

By the way, what size should the fonts be in order for it to be easily read? For color and style, I use white and Ariel, but is there anything else that could be more legible?

You have to set the subtitle size, font, position, color etc. In the version i've got, it's under Settings > Subtitles, then click on the Text Subtitles Rendering Settings button. It's something I always check, because i've done exactly the same thing before, and I almost go nuts trying to read the tiny subs :(

I like using yellow and Arial, with a font size of 20... I think the yellow really stands out. :)

Me too - exactly that. :) I think I settled on that after viewing one of your hardsubs :)

I'd be grateful if you'd let me know what size, font, position, etc you use since we use the same program. I'm really new to the softsub thing and could use all the help I can get. Also, do you use the same setting for every drama or do you have to compensate for dramas with really long subtitled lines?

Yellow sounds good. As for the size 20 font, do you think it would be too big for those subs with 3 lines or those with really long subs? (does this make sense?)

Oddly, most professional subbers don't: they like using white.

Yellow stands out too much in their opinion. :headscratch:

I've never had a problem.

If the program is any good, it automatically breaks the subs up to fit margins that the user specifies, so that it doesn't run off the screen.

Of course, if the subber gets too wordy, then the text fills up more than three lines and goes to four or five lines... Not good. LOL.

Thanks for your help beem & AD! I will try this out tomorrow when I have more time. I hope that this will work out. I will post here again to let you know the results. :fingerscrossed:

Thanks for the pic, but I have no idea how to get to that screen with my version of convertxtodvd. :( Here's what I have:

(Omg, does the word "Arial" look like another word in that pic? ) Eh, what the hell. I'm just going to try it with the size 20 Anal fonts. :beaten:

I think "anal" fonts are "rectaltangular"

You need to upgrade your version....
9 Dec 2007, 10:29 #1500
Yay! My first softsub DVD authoring thingy is a success. :victory: However, I noticed that on a handful of occasions (only did a quick scan, so no clue how often this occurs) there were long lines that got cut off when I enlarged the font. I don't give a $hit because I sure as hell don't want to waste another 3+ hours doing that again. I hope to finish up the rest of the series in the next couple of days.

Thanks again for the help beem & AD. :glomp:

I think so too, but it seems to be working ok without the upgrade...
